That's a heavy kitchen island! But it's also spread out over maybe 30 square feet, and the table over only 8 square feet. I'd be concerned about the floor's ability to hold that up.


I don't know exactly why a countertop with a mitered edge on supports and a table with a mitered edge on supports would require more weight per square foot.


I thought you were advocating a block of marble for the coffee table...

Chiming in...making it is not a terrible idea. I Have made number of my own furniture pieces. Few warnings about MDF. I find it chips easily during assembly,don't cut it indoors, that crap is terrible to inhale, and painting it can be bit touchy if you are looking for a mirror finish. that being said, you can make a nice piece if you are handy for sub 200$

My coffee table is an old military rack mount transit case made from aluminum. I keep putting off having it blasted and polished so it goes better with my Eames chairs.

Philosophy as a discipline is dead. The most relevant philosophers now made their mark outside of academia.
