took my old man 14 hours to drive to cornwall in a min,i A roads back then and it rained, victoria sponge , salad with grated cheese and salad cream always remember the beetroot, saturday my old man would buy pease pudding and faggotts horrible looking grub, down the lane he would always eat jellied eels from tubby issacs stall, there was some good clothes shop down the lane back then , do you remember east ham covered market i remember you speaking about east ham . The burnell arms and the ruskin arms the angel in ilford and the cranbrook pub did you go to any of them mate

Faggots and Pease Pudding,Potato Fritters etc.When I went to the Lane it was always a Pint of Prawns from Tubby Isaacs,then take them home and have with a Beer.I remember East Ham Covered Market-used to be a good Leather Stall there(at the end)and a good little Caff,just inside the entrance.The Denmark Arms,The Central,The Green Man,The Rushkin Arms(started off as a Pilgrimage,because the Small Faces used to practice there-when Jimmy Winstone was in the Band).It became a Heavy Metal Pub.Iron Maiden were Regulars there.Earl Of Wakefield and Burnell Arms,have drunk in them.The Cranbrook was where we had a Pint before the Palais.

cranbrook used to have live music , i remember the hells angels at the ruskin when the metal bands were on one of them was a pal that would have been around 85 86, i used to go to the green gate newbury park was one of the weatly taverns , lacy lady, pigeons , i used to train at the central gym , and at the ruskin a bit, the old faishoned boxing gyms over the top of a pub couldnt beat that for atmosphere

Did you train at the Royal Oak,in Canning Town,Alan?Used to go there and watch Bruno sometimes.

I knew Nigel through his Cousin Danny,who worked with us at the Palais.Danny was the first Person to jump in the Ring-whenever Nigal fought!

Les(who used to run West Ham Boxing Club)lives in the next Village.I have now know what happened to Mark Kaylor-who was one of my favourite Boxers from about that time(right from when he was an Amateur at West Ham)to when he sort of disappeared,Interesting Geezer to speak to!

Vidal Sassoon R.I.P.One of the People who put London on the Fashion Map(in the `60s)along with Mary Quant and John Stephens etc.In the mid 60s I had a Girlfriend who would save her Wages,and go "Up West" and have her Hair done-in Sassoons`Salon.In those days we had Pioneers,now I am not so sure!!!

RIP indeed. No more pioneers. Mary Quant called Vidal Sassoon the Chanel of hairdressing and very apt too. The belief in a pared back look, less is more. Very much the skinhead motif.

tne man was an icon to the swinging sixtys , i met David Bailey, we did a photo shoot with him spent most of the day with him , one of the best days ive had he ended up taking a photo of me the wife and one of my sons , which has pride of place at home , but the storys he told us were amazing , of the sixtys ect all respect to Vidal Sassoon

We bought what we could afford in the days when we started out. I get a bit cheesed off with the retro style people who pick up on the slightest out of place item such as a pair of ordinary brogues instead of the royals where the stitching does not arch down to the sole.
It's nice to see so many people wearing Dr. Marten boots these days but they all look like amatuers when along comes the skinhead with his polished boots. One thing I always did have was my docs and I used to polish them like my life depended upon them. Cheers!

It was inportant in 1969 to have the correct pattern brogues to identify you from other brogue wearers. i still only buy Royals today
