what about silver with brown leather, with blue jeans? brown/silver/blue, would it look good? i think the silver would go well with the blue jeans, and having a tan belt is better than having a black belt i think.

i would avoid anything brass. get a neutral color buckle, like pewter. it goes well with all leather.

sounds good thanks for the advice.

i don't have a nickel plated brass buckle or a pewter buckle, is the color different enough to tell from a glance? what are the differences in looks between the two? is recommendations for a pewter belt?

in your opinion, is brown (natural color that was darkened from use) or black leather the better look on raw denim jeans?

thanks

Yep, nickel allergy dermatitis is one of the most common skin allergies in the community.

Not necessarily - I have a pewter buckle from 1976, still very much intact.
Pewter is traditionally used if much texture work needs to be done on the metal.
The metal to avoid is tin - not very good for longevity.

There is no strict rule.
I have seen black leather with brass hardware (yellow in appearance) - gives a very vintage look, and can work very well.
I have seen brown leather with sterling silver or nickel/chromium plated hardware (silver in appearance) - this is less common, but it's not impossible to make it work.

But if you have to ask, then I will say:
for black belts, go with a plated hardware;
for brown belts, go with brass;
with natural tan/unfinished belts, can do either.

Overall, I will say that the best metals to go with a nice veg. tanned leather and raw denim would be pewter, brass, copper, or sterling silver - when treated correctly (e.g. the lost wax process), they can achieve a worn look much like the denim and leather.

IMO, if you do have raw denim jeans, can't go wrong with a natural tan belt - looks great after a little bit of oiling/suntanning or wear, and matches either brass or plated hardware well.

P.S. This probably belongs to small questions thread.

Actually, if you're feeling adventurous and want a more specialised product with more value - I would recommend you check out smaller leather brands like Dolce Vita, Vintage Works, KC's, Kawatako, and dozens of other specialist/house brands for really good leather and hardware.
That is, if you don't feel like going the custom made route.

These guys do their production in-house, unlike bigger brands which usually outsource their production and don't really specialise in leather.
Not to mention these smaller brands usually experiment quite a bit with different hardware configurations and colour combos; there will be something which works with the rest of your wardrobe.

P.S. No offence to BiG of course - posting just in case OP is really gonna be interested in leather and associated hardware.
