Man, that should've been a PK for City at the end there.

If you watch closely, Balotelli makes a real dramatic dive, he just flops to the floor, it does not look like he got pulled down, howver, based on the shirt tugging just before that, if he would've been pulled down, it would've certainly been a penalty.

When players become drama queens it doesn't do their cause any good.

Should it have been a penalty? Yes, but when Balotelli jumped to the floor, the only thing he achieves is to put doubt in the referee's mind.

Placed right in the heart of the Principality of Asturias, Oviedo is the capital city of this northern Spanish coastal region by the Bay of Biscay. From the time you enter this city, you are in for a real surprise: sightseeing becomes a dream-like experience where cleanliness and order preserve the past and look into the future. In such a charming urban environment, described by Woody Allen as a ‘fairy-tale town’, it would not be expected to find another defining element that shapes its identity apart from its Pre-Romanesque monuments or its one-towered Gothic Cathedral, but there is a major one.

Please, let us introduce you to Real Oviedo. This historic club was established back in 1926 and became the first Asturian club to promote to First Division in 1933. Unfortunately, the Spanish Civil War prevented it from becoming part of that reduced group of La Liga winners. The mid-30s had been a real golden age for football in Oviedo, finishing in third position for two seasons in a row. Notwithstanding this, in the end, the outbreak of the Spanish conflict brought the trenches right into Real Oviedo’s home ground, the magical Buenavista Stadium.

Then, let us travel fast forward in time and we could find Real Oviedo at the beginning of the new millennium playing in the top-flight at a brand-new stadium called Carlos Tartiere, which holds 30,5000 spectators, before more than 21,000 season-ticket holders after thirty-seven seasons among the Spanish elite. Expectations were great at the beginning of that ill-fated 2000-2001 season, Real Oviedo was struggling to qualify to play UEFA Cup once again by the January transfer-window. Six months on and it got sadly relegated to Second Division on the last fixture of the season. There and then its 2001 misery odyssey began.

Two seasons later, Real Oviedo tragically plummeted to the Spanish Fourth Division. Once more, it had been caught in the middle of the political crossfire of the people in power, it had been neglected by its board of directors, betrayed by its players and trampled under the feet of a whimsical mayor. However, against all the odds, its supporters kept this football club alive by getting involved in all the needs it demanded to be saved from a more than likely demise.

Today, almost ten years later, Real Oviedo is in Segunda B (Third Division), and the struggle to get back to First Division keeps the supporters going. There are more than 11,500 season-ticket holders whose hearts are still beating in blue, full of hope for a better future.

Their unique identity has been the result of their painful banishment from the place they belong to, their true feelings have been shaped by all that bitterness they have been through: forsaken by local and regional governments, looted by former owners and mocked by rivals.

Now, Real Oviedo tries to avoid its nemesis and November 17th is the deadline, the supporters try to prevent their beloved club from uttering its swansong. Please, step ahead and become a hero: contribute to Real Oviedo’s dreams of a better future to come by buying even just a single share (€10.75). One of Spanish football`s most historic clubs is in danger of permanently closing its doors, as financial hardships and the economic crisis in Spain and have made day-to-day operations of the Segunda B side impossible.


The club is responsible for some of Spain`s finest exports as Arsenal`s Santi Cazorla, Swansea City`s Michu and Chelsea midfielder, Juan Mata all got their start at this prestigious club.

There is now an effort to raise capital for the club and we at Inside Spanish Football are calling on all lovers of Spanish Football to do whatever they can to help save this club.

We have provided details for those of you who are interested in contributing to this worthwhile cause and encourage everyone to share this with anyone who may be interested in contributing as well.
The window to purchase share begins on November 3rd to November 17th and the minimum price per share is €10.75.

Update: The club has announced that a PayPal account is in the works for those who wish to purchase shares from abroad and how those purchasing shares will receive confirmation.

“Real Oviedo would send you by post the titles of the shares that make you own part of the Club. You would just need to email your address [email protected] with your PayPal or Bank transfer transaction number and Real Oviedo will send your shares to your front door.”

According to Sid Lowe, when the club does active their PayPal account, the price per share will be a “fraction” more (€11.50) due to the comissions paid to PayPal, but not enough to deter you from contributing as much as you can!

All of those purchasing share will in NO way assume any of the responsibility for any future debts that may occur with the club, but there is no future montary gain, either.

Real Oviedo have announced that all those who purchase shares on Saturday, will also be invited to attend Saturday evening`s match against Real Madrid ‘C’, free of charge! Incredible opportunity to visit the beautiful stadium and see two magnificent teams, all free of charge! I said Champions League and Europa, not just Champions League.  I think West Brom, Everton, New Castle, Fulham, West Ham and Swans could all challenge for the 4th CL spot.  They all have a chance at playing in the Europa

Everton aside, I doubt that very very much. Top three's settled already, Spurs, Arsenal and Everton for fourth. Some of the teams you mention will be battling for Europa places but if that includes Swansea then Laudrup can have any job in football he wants.

For the few of you who might care about events in northern Britain, Heart of Midlothian, Scotland's traditional 'third club', are facing a winding up order over non-payment of taxes and have been late paying the players for months now. The national team's just sacked the manager after 3 wins in 12 (he might have hung on as the SFA couldn't afford the 700,000 compensation for the remaining two years of his contract), we're down to 54th in the world (we were in the top twenty less than ten years ago) and plummeting downwards. Might have given the world football (or fitba) but it's comprehensively Donald Ducked back hame.

Two shots on target and two goals? I only remember one other shot and that was blocked by a defender on a long ball. It felt like Barcelona was going to just start scoring to match how much they dominated play: never happened. What's up with their corners too? During the flow of the game they lived off of Alves sending in crosses from the side, yet every corner but one which I can recall was a short corner.
