And +1 to the incredulity at the "safety" helmets. About as much use as taking a water pistol into a tank battle. I like how that little bit of legislation gets observed whilst the obvious lack of any meaningful measures gets overlooked. I suppose the risk of getting clunked with the tool bag is the reasoning behind this.

Yeah...some sort of rod where you have to reclip only every 10 ft or so...parts of the climb already looked like they had something you could clip to.

The video mentions that OSHA doesn't require them to clip in...but I bet it requires employers not fire anyone who would prefer to go a hair slower and clip/unclip.

Serious pucker factor.

That is seriously unsafe, but I guess someone has to change the lightbulb at the top.

I'm not gonna lie and say that this is a scary climb, but yeah, climbing up always seems easier than climbing down. Remember climbing trees as a kid and once you got up as high as you could go, you'd look down and that sinking feeling would appear that said, "OK, now how are you gonna get back down, dipshit?"

Scary stuff. I work in communications so I work with and know a few tower climbers. They get paid decent money. Some get paid by the foot. If that guy is getting paid by the foot he is making some serious dough. I climbed a 50ft silo today and that was high enough for me.

Hell, it wouldn't be hard to design something that does the clipping for them, like those latches on extendable ladders. This is so

Curious as to what these guys get paid?

No amount of money would be enough for me, but just curious.

They should build a gigantic fire pole that they can slide down beside it! wee how much fun as your groin and hands catch fire while traveling at terminal velocity

Why can't they just helicopt the guy up and he can parachute back down when he's done. So he gets paid 4 hours just to climb? That's not economically sound.
