A couple of us in Markham will be having a sort-of get-together this Wednesday, April 24 in Markham Village. Plan tentatively is to meet-up outside of Laz's, on Main Street, at around 7:30pm and get a drink at a watering hole nearby (there are several within a couple of minutes walking)...or food maybe.

Figured a lot of Markham/Richmond Hill/York Region folks here --- the more the merrier.

Just look out for the bunch of well-dressed gents outside of Laz's, or go to the girl working the entrance desk and ask.

Does anyone know if HR can consolidate gift cards? I have 3 gift cards with a total value of $250. But when shopping online you can only enter 1 gift card. I've emailed them before and no response.

Had a great experience at Harry Rosen today.

Bontoni is having a trunk show, and the owner of the company, Franco was there.

A really nice guy, and very passionate about the work they do. He mentioned that during Covid, he had to move the workshop to his home.

He mentioned that some very big brands had asked him to make their shoes as well, but he likes making shoes that are his own.

All that to say, we talked shop for a long time, and I ordered these monks in navy:

It’s actually not typical MTO, as Bontoni can make certain adjustments for fit (closer to MTM). I also asked if they could make the waist a bit more narrow, and he obliged.

All that to say, excited for them to arrive!

Are they comparable to Crockett & Jones hand grade in terms of build quality. Not in styling ofcourse as C&J are a bit more conservative than this pair which has a bit more Italian style/ flair?

They are more expensive than hand grade C&J.

I have both, and the quality of finishing is slightly better on the Bontoni’s. But that’s also because it’s a big part of their selling point - the unique colours/patinas they offer, and how they’re hand painted.

I’m more curious as to how much they can tighten the waist - it’s not easy to do, and requires stretching the leather under the outsole.

Some here thinks Harry Rosen is the only place in town that does it all! From beating drums of sales or outlet markdowns to made to measure program that Harry Rosen offers!

Is there any life outside HR? I have made to measure clothes made in China now from the days of wearing labels and shopping at HR!

There is a world outside that store! For many that do care for fit before anything! Munro is not HR they make clothes for many others.

Who takes measurements these days? Someone who has a tape measure is compared to people who actually make clothes, alter clothes, cut and stitch clothes?

Last but not least Munro aint cheap!!

They have had good sales lately but I couldn't find myself to spend money there.

Bascically it shows how much the person knows. It's like when watch guys can only talking about Rolex...
