I am pretty biased towards HP in general, but the 25 is an amazing whisky. Its pretty expensive and I don't dip into my bottle much, but when I do I am greeted with an incredible mixture of peat, pepper and honey. Old HPs are really amazing and I've already got my eye on the next one I'll be picking up!

Just got home from a late night meet-up with a couple of friends, and I'm enjoying a Frugal Joe's Ordinary Beer from Trader Joe's. Not bad, actually. Nothing crazy, but very drinkable.

So it's kinda like an ordinary beer?

CAPTAIN'S BLOOD

1.5oz aged rum (Flor De Cana 12)
0.5oz falernum (homemade)*
0.5oz lime juice
0.25oz simple syrup
1 dash Angostura bitters

*The homemade falernum came out well. I don't know what the stuff is supposed to taste like, but mine is enjoyable. The clove and allspice dominate, with a faint taste of anise and lime coming through as well. The almond is actually noticeable. The ginger is present, but very muted. I don't taste much nutmeg; this is probably due to the fact that I used powdered nutmeg rather than an actual nutmeg. Overall, I'd tone down the allspice and clove a bit, if I could. But I'm very happy with the result.

The cocktail is delicious but, to me, all I really taste is falernum (and mainly allspice/clove) combined with lime juice. I'm not complaining, but next time I'm going to use 0.25oz of falernum.

Truly one of life's greatest moments. Watching the little one, I mean. The homework part, not so much.

That's why I was more or less pretending at the homework. But I was taking the drinking seriously. Turned out to be a terrible mistake in letting her sleep earlier, because when WE wanted to sleep, she got all talkative and hungry.

Don't worry, you have to expect a few sleepless nights at first but it should get a lot better in 6 or 7 years. Maybe 10.

Oh, that's a great relief to hear.

Actually in 5 years our boy hits driving age and no doubt will want to be out all hours of the night. So, by the time Kit Kat is sleeping through the night, we'll be staying awake waiting for Big D to come home.
