This fw19 leather with the chainmail detail fits perfectly with the fw21 theme.

Shame that Hedi did pull in Jasper for fw21. His own personal style is close to fw21's feeling.

A part of me feels like his jacket is a bit too slim fitting for those flares. I feel like he can relax his jacket silhouette a bit to match his relaxed trousers. His jacket seems to fit better with a skinny trousers.

I personally embrace the new "tiktok" direction. I've been silently waiting for Hedi to update his top-to-bottom skinny aesthetic into more relaxed volumes. Maybe because selfish part of me can't fit in them anymore lol.

Besides Hedi has always had youth as his muse/inspiration. The whole skinny rocker indie look just isn't fresh anymore, it's rather cliché even. Todays youth is into streetwear, 90s oversize fashion, logos. While its a bit of a shock to see these elements in a Hedi collection, Celine is a business and the clothes need to sell. Rumor had it numbers weren't good pre-Dancing Kid collection. Obviously there will always be a following in Japan, Korea, China.. but here in the western world, very little buzz around Celine, especially menswear.

Here in Paris, several boutiques that had menswear stopped even carrying it. I was in Rome this summer, same thing there.

You also need to factor in the pandemic. With all cultural events suspended, evening wear (a major part of Hedis presentations) has become obsolete. Same thing with formal wear, suiting sales have plummeted with people working from home. Luxury brands need to adapt and so the TikTok marketing thing makes uber sense. Its smart. Cozy slouchy looks targetting the youth, get them buzzing about #celine on IG.

Anyways just some random thoughts. Oh and btw, the riding boots is a reference to the French Republican Guards (JM Weston) footwear ..

that's a great point actually.

maybe when things return to normal Hedi will be churning out beautifully cut suits so we can really get into the whole "roaring twenties 2.0" people keep talking about

Shoe condom for sneakers

I have a black low cut pair for leather shoes/soles when I need to walk through snow laced with salt. Transparent ones for your white sneakers make sense for Z trainers.

I'd like to believe they will still stock business items, but not spotlight it.

That said, I've seen 1 female SA get assigned to wear ss21 skate trousers.

Riding boots are much more elegant interpretation of that high shaft boot trend that Bottega Veneta and Prada are doing.

I wonder what's the difference between Asia and the West. The West has a stronger aversion towards dressing up. I also wonder if the youth are buzzing on social media about Celine. I feel like the youth don't care about Hedi and only care about the celebrities rocking Celine. As long as celebrities start rocking it, anything would sell.

Asia vs West: you may have a point about formal wear being more accepted outside the office space or black tie events but that wasn't really the point I was inferring to. Hedi has had a cult following in Asia ever since his DH tenure. From what I understand it's mainly about body types, Hedi arguably makes the skinniest jackets (whether a biker or a suit) and petite sizes, well he used to anyways..

As for the youth, they are into whatever brand of the moment is cool. It was Balenciaga & Supreme up until now that really dominated the scene. Celebrities help sure, but logos work even better. Kids want other kids to know they're rocking top dollar threads and not Zara/Sandro/Forever21 copies.

To be honest, I was surprised to see Hedi cave in so much. Sales must have been bad and the pressure from above strong. Never ever would I have thought I'd see Hedi models wearing dad hats, joggers

or cut-off shorts with palm tree doc martens, xxxl tye die sweater, logo cross bags and a scooter helmet yet here we are..

Then again, I would have never predicted a global pandemic either so just shows you never know..

Still loving those tan combat boots and the black ankle boots. I’d like to see the red oxfords at some point too, but those two boots will be my next pick ups.

I like to believe that the general idea of shorts and boots is a call back to ss02. But I get what you mean about material choice he used for ss21 being a departure.
