that's a great point actually. You also need to factor in the pandemic. With all cultural events suspended, evening wear (a major part of Hedis presentations) has become obsolete. Same thing with formal wear, suiting sales have plummeted with people working from home. Luxury brands need to adapt and so the TikTok marketing thing makes uber sense. Its smart. Target the youth, get them buzzing about #celine on IG.
Riding boots are much more elegant interpretation of that high shaft boot trend that Bottega Veneta and Prada are doing.Anyways just some random thoughts. Oh and btw, the riding boots is a reference to the French Republican Guards (JM Weston) footwear ..
I wonder what's the difference between Asia and the West. The West has a stronger aversion towards dressing up. I also wonder if the youth are buzzing on social media about Celine. I feel like the youth don't care about Hedi and only care about the celebrities rocking Celine. As long as celebrities start rocking it, anything would sell.Besides Hedi has always had youth as his muse/inspiration. The whole skinny rocker indie look just isn't fresh anymore, it's rather cliché even. Todays youth is into streetwear, 90s oversize fashion, logos. While its a bit of a shock to see these elements in a Hedi collection, Celine is a business and the clothes need to sell. Rumor had it numbers weren't good pre-Dancing Kid collection. Obviously there will always be a following in Japan, Korea, China.. but here in the western world, very little buzz around Celine, especially menswear.
Here in Paris, several boutiques that had menswear stopped even carrying it. I was in Rome this summer, same thing there.

I like to believe that the general idea of shorts and boots is a call back to ss02. But I get what you mean about material choice he used for ss21 being a departure.or cut-off shorts with palm tree doc martens
