@ericgereghty, continuing our discussion of the soft Roma cutaway, here are some photos. The fabric is the Albini Navy Stripe Oxford Chambray (PCF1211).

Here is the shirt, fresh from being professionally laundered, no starch. As you can see, it could use some Viagra.

Without a tie and with collar stays.

With a tie and with collar stays. I wear the collar stays in these photos to show that the fabric is so flimsy that the stays bulge the collar.

FWIW, I've now tried 3 Proper Cloth cutaways. President Cutaway (fused), soft Roma and Londoner. My favorite, by far, is the Londoner. To me the proportions are perfect. It is a true cutaway, but not as aggressively cut as the President and not as in-your-face big as the Roma.

Sorry to say, but to me it looks flat and lifeless. I've bent and curved my collar stays a bit to achieve some nice roll. I'd prefer it w/o collar stays however.

well it would seem pretty simple to me for them to offer a response. it's got to be one of three things, so this could just be multiple choice even:

1. we can alter this setting for you if requested (by email, or whatever)

2. we can't currently offer this, but we are working on changing it across the board or offering the ability to modify on specific orders

3. we are aware of this design defect but don't care and you've only bought like 2 shirts from us anyway, have a nice day

Fwiw, I have not found their customer service folks to be very receptive, but, Veni is right regarding callis' lack of frequency here...so I'm sure it was missed rather than ignored.

Has anyone tried the Bleecker Beige Melange fabric? Looks interesting.

I picked up the slate blue and like it very much, works great with a soft collar/cuff. Very light and breezy fabric, it'll be great in the summer. Hopefully that doesn't mean it'll wear through quickly, I've only washed it once so we'll see how it holds up. Can't comment on the color specifically but the fabric feels very nice.

Is there any information on the new collars yet?
Can a tailor fix bump behind collar? Having poor success here with every PC shirt despite moving the neck front/back/yoke/chest/etc.

They had a Canclini seersucker on clearout a month ago, and your suggestion is pretty much what I was thinking. Dragged my heels and missed out on that one, so glad to see they have another one in.

I like this overall.......but w/ a soft roma one must keep in mind its a large collar, and keeping it soft is just asking a lot to not have it bunch/wrinkle or misbehave. It will just work best if not soft IMO.......

This is my second Proper Cloth shirt; it's been worn and washed for about a year and I think I've got the fit down pretty good.

The only thing I notice, is that there is a little horizontal roll/crease underneath the yoke, that you can see in this photo. Is that something that can be fixed by adjusting for posture or shoulder slope? I don't think it is shoulder slope, because there are no lines along the front (the usual indicator of shoulder slope). But it may be posture, because you can also see that there is a very slight roll behind the collar. I hope it's not shoulder/yoke width or chest width, because I think those measurements are pretty good.

u appear to have a high right shoulder.......and a bit of a twist in your thoracolumbar spine...that could be a part of the issue...I'm in the spine business.


anyhew, PC is a unique company..they are made to fit shirts....but u may need a bespoke one on one tailor to fix your issue.....but its a rather small issue....shirt looks good.

I don't expect PC to make every shirt perfect...they have some limitations

Those do look good. I was thinking of the University Stripe Oxford for mine.

My only PC shirts thus far are sans placket (this would be placketed), so it'll be interesting to see just how "slim" they run...admittedly, I don't think I've ever (PC or otherwise) heard of a narrow placket as an issue.

all of my PC shirts are French front.....one has a std placket......and my opinion is the placket is on the slim/narrow side.....


my other shirts Ive had over 40 yrs w/ std placket are all a bit wider.... off the shelf and custom.

the narrower placket seem a bit hipper, like more downtown ish.........it grew on me...but it does feel a bit narrow w/ larger collars.

It's never occurred to me that the placket is narrow or too narrow. I'm not a huge fan of the standard, fused, placket, but that has nothing really to do with the width. I guess I'd echo @venividivicibj and wonder what would be considered normal. I do think that the soft placket that I use on more casual shirts is excellent, however. For my most dressy shirt I use the "no placket" option, which Proper Cloth describes as "casual" but which has never seemed so to me.

On another subject, I heartily recommend the Japanese Basketweave cotton fabric (PCF1329). I ordered a "OCBD-style" shirt in that fabric recently and wore it for the first time this weekend. It's lovely and soft, the texture is interesting, and the color is a very warm white. I think it's going to be a great summer casual shirt. I liked it so much I ordered a second one.
