Looking to buy a pair of black chelsea boots with a rubber sole. I know leather soles are probably "more elegant", but weather and intend use means rubber will be the way forward in terms of getting decent wear out of them before resoling. In terms of price the highest I'd be willing to go is C&J, what are the best options up to this price point?

I recently bought a pair of Allen Edmonds Tate Chelsea's for a bit over 200. Not sure if they are still on sale or not but I felt pretty great about the deal.

The C&J Chelseas (5 and 8) are really nice. If those are within your budget I'd strongly consider them.
Otherwise, I'd suggest checking out Carmina, Yanko (lower price point but IMO well made), RM Williams (more casual). Other good makes are Carlos Santos and Lof & Tung (by Skoaktiebolaget) but I couldn't find a rubber-soled black chelsea from either of those.

Thanks everyone for the advice. Being in the UK allen edmonds aren't really an option as I like to try my shoes on first, same reason I've yet to go for pair of Carminas, although they do have some limited retail presence here. Thinking my options are pretty much C&J or RM williams.
