I've tried the jacket on so I have seen it, its nice, its just dumb to try to justify its superiority by talking about the evolutionary process of nylon.

I don't think sq4you was saying that though. I thought he was saying that (though the nylon used by lanvin may be nothing special) a jacket shouldn't be judged inferior just because it's made of nylon, there's nothing inherently inferior about nylon as a type of material, etc.

lol that's true but I thought sq4you's point (not saying I agree with it) was precisely that nylon (and sythetic fabrics in general) isn't automatically inferior to natural fabrics ("they serve a distinct function and exhibit properties unmatched by naturally occurring ones. also, one has to appreciate the engineering that goes into man-made fabrics just as much as one appreciates the evolutionary process that led to natural fabrics like silk.")

actually who am i kidding - i was browsing the RO sale on gilt and some BoO three-piece suit popped up under 'YOU WOULD ALSO LOVE' (?!!). was a bit tempted to use my gilt credit on it but found out it's nylon.

actually the whole suit (this one) it's still on gilt in size 36.... if anyone wants a link pm me....

I dunno, I can't really appreciate synthetic fabrics. Not saying they can't offer something to design, but something 100% nylon I'd say is bound to not be very special.

Fuji: kwoyeus interpretation of what I said is correct. I was simply saying that bashing something because it is made of fabric X is dumb. That same jacket was shown in nylon, suede and a jacquard fabric. Of the three the jacquard was the most incredible. I told the Lanvin dude I wanted that one but it wasn't produced. Between the leather and nylon one, the nylon was the best. It is lightweight, extremely rigid and weatherproof.

The pocket/zipper thing is just personal preference. If u don't like it you don't like it. I do.

Fortunately, Raf Simons disagrees with you.

There are around a dozen smaller wjk dealers that are far more likely to have popular pieces in stock for longer. But these stores only stock a limited selection of each collection, so I usually end up buying each item from a totally different small shop.

also kopped KMW 1950 RHT for super cheap, jay was really helpful

Cool, navy still looks nice

I want some less slim fit jeans. I've given up on my 1980s. been looking at the 1950s, the KMW denim and details is just so nice. 1980 cut just doesn't work for me though

Ummmm, you guys are talking about nylon, i'm talking about why fuuma thinks some designers, especially prorsum, are obselete. At least, why i think he thinks that.

Please enlighten me on what i missed

sq4you is right. There's nothing wrong with nylon when used in the proper context such as a lightweight waterproof jacket. This concept of heavily judging the value of a piece from a label like Lanvin based on if the fabric is man made or not is absurd. People primarily buy Lanvin for other reasons such as design or perceived cachet. Like most other expensive labels, nothing in their collection can be justified based on the cost of materials. So where does this idea come from?

I have a theory. Popular media has been demonizing polyester for quite a few years now. It has become commonplace in both print and TV (especially those makeover type shows on TLC) to attack man made fabrics as a symbol of "cheap" clothing. This continually pumped mantra has been so overwhelmingly successful that most upper middle income white people have come to collectively believe this.

While it may be true that most cheap clothing is made of cheap polyester fabric, that so many here are willing to misapply this same logic to Lanvin's pieces demonstrates just how successful the propaganda against man made fabrics has been.
