Just curious: does that mean that for the order you just put in, you will merely be getting a final fitting or no fitting at all?

So, I'd say either 6 months or 10 months to get your first suit. You wouldn't do a basted fitting for following orders unless there's significant changes to make (e.g. db vs sb, lost/gained a lot of weight, etc...)

Really, who does this? Unless you are abnormally misfigured/misshapen or have a ton of time on your hands, why go through the trouble? Serious question. Does all of this trouble really translate into a better garment?

Thanks.

Maybe I'll start seriously looking into starting this at the end of next year

I won't be seeing Patrick this time around. However, they always seem to have the Glorious Twelfth book along. Given a choice between those fabrics, I would most strongly recommend the Hardy Worsted Alsport. A jacket I had made from the Glorious Twelfth fabric developed shiny elbows after a very limited amount of use. I've given my Hardy Worsted Alsport jacket a fair amount of wear over the past year, and it looks good as new.

As to the matter of multiple fittings from Chan, I will repeat my story once again: The first suit (sans fittings) I got from Chan was a handsome, good-looking satisfactory garment that garnered me a number of compliments. However, my second order and subsequents one, after Patrick had a chance to tweak my pattern, I like somewhat better. At least in my case, I never regretted not getting multiple fittings. I know other men have had different experiences.

For all my orders after the first one, I chose to have the finished garments sent in the mail. If there are any issues or tweaks that I'd like, I bring these to the next visit and try them on for Patrick to show him what I want to get fixed. Then I ship the stuff to him and they usually turn things around in about 2 months.

JLibourel, thanks for the recommendation on the Hardy Worsted Alsport.

As my tailor (which one I can't remember) once said ... wear the coat/suit a while ... see what happens. I've had what I thought were minor problems work themselves out over a few wearings. I recall Manton noting a minor problem of drop on an A&S coat that I'd just received. By the time I got back to A&S ... there was no problem. On other occasions ... with what I thought to be a perfect fit ... minor problems developed.

Many thanks - very helpful. Except for your white lining issue, no major surgeries I presume?

Mostly tweaks. Only other big thing was that sport coat that came with flaps instead of patches.

I placed an order for a W. Bill shetland in dark brown with multi colors herringbone jacket and matching vest. Haven't heard yet if they actually can get it on short notice as it wasn't in one of their books. Fingers crossed!

Anyone got any good recommendations for a nice glen plaid fabric, around 10 oz, with a bold overcheck (preferably in blue)?
