For those inclined, feel free to mention in which city you met Patrick for WW Chan and what you ordered. My meeting is next friday, and I plan to get one suit and select a fabric or two for a subsequent e-mail order. By then, my pattern should be all set.

I'll be meeting Patrick that morning too. I will probably get another Hardy Alsport jacket and perhaps something else, either another jacket or a suit.

Two suits:

1. Harrison's Frontier 10oz light grey suit, will have flapped pockets, 3 roll-2 etc, quarter lined. Slightly darker/less washed out than the picture

2. Minnis 8/9 fresco (the high twist stuff at the beginning of the book) navy suit, 2 patch pockets, quarter lined. I think its 0505

How does the Alsport wear? Is it very warm?

I went with a 9/10oz Fresco jacket, #516. I was between that and the Smith Finmeresco #4044 (12oz).

Met in NY. With the number of people still looking at swatches and coming in and out and the number of phone calls, their business is clearly not suffering. Damage was rather light:

- 3 shirts - all Mason fabric, all wide spread with higher than norm collar, 3 button cuff, French placket (I like Chan for my basic dress shirts - price point works, quality is high (they've gotten much better than they were a few years ago at shirts), only criticism is fabric selection is blah).

- One jacket - 2 button, side vent, lower PP, upper welt, soft shoulder, lightest canvas. Done in grey flannel with two diff colored overcheck from Holland and Sherry SherryKash book.

Since I am wearing the Alsport jacket I ordered on the July tour for only the third or fourth time today, I am not in a position to comment on its durability. It is a 12-ounce fabric. I have the sense it should be fine in most mild to cool weather we get in Southern California. No doubt a tad on the light side for really bitter cold weather unless worn with an outergarment.

Chan have Smiths? This is the first I've heard of that.

They actually had the GB book last time they came through. Was the first time I had seen it. Was easy to miss given the long table heaving with books - their fabric selection now is almost overwhelming. They have clearly stepped up their game in that dept over the past few years.

That is probably a fair assessment, it is 4-ply (Minni's fresco is two?) and as a result it feels much stiffer to me and doesnt have as open a weave. Stiff in an interesting way but not what I was looking for in a summer suit. I know a bunch of folks here have had suits made up in it so they could probably speak to it better than I could.

It is a little heavier, a smoother weave, and does not allow as much air circulation as the 9/10 Minnis.

I haven't worn mine enough to really have it pegged but I'll guess the Smiths is for days that are ten degrees cooler.
