Well, fine then. Still I'm staying mostly quite as I learn. I was overweight forever and now that I'm down 70 pounds (40 to go...) I actually feel like I look fairly good, so I'm trying to dress a lot better.

Anyway, yes, so there.

And then you have guys like me...

On Wednesday night I come home from a night of drinking, remove my clothes to my underwear and a white t-shirt. My girlfriend presents to me a large grocery bag of Brooks Brother's fabric sample books... for a split second I actually consider having her take a photo of my lying about all the sample books in my underwear so I could post it in the "Creepy Sartorial Images" thread.

While I didn't carry it, out I do encourage all nOObs to do so for entertai... er, I mean "To help them develop thick skins". Yeah that's it.

This, and what makes it extra fun is that because most people don't dress well, I have become a fashion god to some... Now where did I put those tassel loafers they all love?

Good for you man. What did you find worked best for losing the weight.

Initially I started the Couch to 5k plan. I have been overweight for most of my life (I'm 31 now), when I peaked at 265 I figured it was either make a dramatic change or be over 300 in 6 months, so I started running. The running and just generally eating less took the first 30 or so pounds off. Around 240 I started counting calories, at the time I was on 1400 a day. That's pretty low for a guy but it really tore the weight off and I had no ill effects. At this point, with 40 pounds left and training starting up for my first half marathon I'm at 1600 a day.

The upshot of this approach is that it elicited a dramatic lifestyle change, that's key. Running is now one of my favorite hobbies and 6 months of journaling everything you eat really changes the way you interact with food. It's no longer just rote consumption, it's a thoughtful and ultimately more rewarding experience.

The only downside to all of this is that I can no longer wear anything I haven't bought in the past 2 months or so. On top of that though I can't really buy all that much because I'll be down another 40 pounds by spring. Resell shops are my friend.

Finally joined after a entire 2 hours of lurking. Now I've broken the hymen I'm not really sure what to do in here. Hopefully you'll all be critical enough to encourage some changes in me. I could use it.
