Thanks! Do you find it relatively versatile ? Seems more jacket than shirt

It’s a lovely piece. Have eyed up that and the chocolate brown suede chore for a while.

Very versatile in the sense that it is an easy material and color to match. I wear it with jeans, velvet or wool pants...And with a shirt or polo shirt.
I find that it is not very comfortable under outerwear, even if I sometimes do it with a raglan...
For me, it is really a mid-season jacket.

Been debating between drake’s herringbone tweed games blazer and j press’s sports coat in (seemingly) the same cloth. Similar fit and features, save for a bit extra detailing on the j press (vent, button cuffs). Any of yall have experience or opinions on either of these?

Note that I have a corduroy games blazer and love it but the tweed is ofc so different

I have essentially the same jacket from O’Connell’s (same maker as J. Press) and the biggest difference is the canvassing and more structured shoulders. It’s more old school/fornal, less soft, slouchy and modern in that sense. Better value given the work involved but a different fit/aesthetic for sure.

Got you thanks for the tip! Both definitely have their strengths. Might need to try irl and compare. I do rly love the touchiness of the drakes which might go better with my wardrobe which is a lot of casual-leaning modern brands with wider fits. But damn those prices! Might be worth it though for the style, I’ve rationalized the cost of my corduroy.

Who makes the j press and O’Connell’s tailoring?

This is a very common color and pattern for tweed, so I doubt it's the same cloth.

For me, the slim lapel width, high gorge and visibly higher buttoning stance of the J. Press jacket would be an absolute non-starter. Also, that chilling model photo isn't helping things.

Obviously I'm biased because I'm here on a Drake's appreciation thread, but I think the details and quality of the Drake's version would justify the extra expense. I have a solid navy tweed Games jacket and apprecate the detailing (patch breast pocket, contrast lining under the collar, concealed brass collar button, etc. etc). Even though I wish it were vented, it's a thoughtfully designed piece, as you'd expect from Drake's.

Also, my experience with contemporary J. Press products has been middling at best. Definitely not the same make or quality as the vintage examples people seek out. Maybe fine for a pair of shorts or even a sweater, but they wouldn't be my first choice for even the most casual tailoring.

Just my $0.02.

Thanks dude! Yeah the styling on j press leaves everything to the imagination lol. Definitely not aspirational like drake’s styling and lookbooks.

I’m also comparing the following from the anthology is anyone has any experience! Like with j press, a bit more structure and formality but perhaps the style is somewhere between games and j press

I have no experience with Anthology, but have been eyeing their products for a while. I’m seriously considering a sport coat and trousers. I think the pricing + styling of the sport coats are very compelling. Much more so than J Press. All my favorite jackets are Drakes or Armoury Model 3, compared to these, my next new purchase would be Anthology.

Yeah this version seems pretty great! I’m concerned about shipping China to the us with no free returns though… very risky for sure

I bought The Anthology jacket last year. It’s a lighter weight tweed than I suspect the Drake’s or J Press ones to be. The structure, the lapel, the shoulders and the sleeve heads make it feel quite a bit more formal to me. It doesn’t look right with a rugby shirt, for example. I have nothing bad to say about the quality though. If you like the styling, I would say go for it.

Ah good to know! I think I want something heavier and that I can wear a casual sweater under with jeans. Perhaps this seals my drakes fate… but certainly love that anthology jacket! Do you know where the fabric came from?

One thing to consider is that the Anthology makes their shoulders slightly roped, as opposed to Drake’s and J.Press’s more natural shoulders. To me that always reads a touch more formal than a non-roped shoulder. I think their waists are also a tad slimmer, accentuating the curve from the pit down to the hip, which again reads less casual

Question on Drake’s chinos. Bought my first pair from Drake’s. Would you expect them to loosen up a little over time? The waist, thigh, hem are perfect but the hip could be touch wider. So wondering whether that naturally stretches a touch over time?

Ordered:
- Tobacco Cotton Flat Front Chino
- Sand Textured Cotton Flat Front

I have a few pairs of the textured chinos and don't think they've stretched or shrunk. I also machine wash cold and hang dry, if that matters. When you try them both on, could you comment on the difference between them in sizing, fabric, fit, etc.?

Nope. No idea. Nothing on the jacket to suggest where the fabric came from.

I love The Anthology; this feels like a much better contender than J. Press. I agree with other commenters, though...this feels like actual tailoring, rather than the workwear-tailoring hybrid that the Games collection seeks to be. Personally if the fit were right, I'd probably choose the jacket from The Anthology, but that's just how my taste is leaning these days.
