I'm trying to decide if I should go in for it.

I think I could really only wear it with a blue suit. Blue jacket with odd trousers in...what color? I wouldn't wear it with brown. I wouldn't wear it with grey. Not really light blue, but maybe.

Am I missing something? I'm trying to broaden my horizons.

Navy blue worsted suit, no tie and brown shoes maybe.

I see it on your second post. There are a few things wrong with this. The shirt is far too refined for that jacket. Its smooth texture and sharp lines contrast displeasingly with the slubby look of the jacket. The tie is too dark throwing the contrast of the other items off. A darker jacket might have mitigated this to some degree. The pocket square looks nice on its own but within the context of this fit it’s too bright and tends to make the eye confused as to whether it should focus on the dark tie or the bright pocket square. Altogether, this is a very incoherent attempt.

As to the shirt itself, it’s a difficult one to work with because it appears to be a murky looking gray coupled with a refined warm stripe. It’s too non standard to be a classic and too milquetoast to be fashion forward. I revel in niche items but I would have no place for this shirt in my wardrobe.

I appreciate your desire to try new things and to broaden horizons but my advice would be to master the basics before attempting the unknown. The reason being that a good knowledge of classic aesthetics will make your experiments grounded in a working knowledge of pattern, texture and color. As it stands you often veer into chaotic incoherence. Incoherence can look good but only when done with a careful eye as to how far you can push things.

Chock full of wisdom, as always.

Maybe I'll try again in a few weeks with less contrasting of a jacket material. The fit is pretty great. I like the shirt!
