Who's making relaxed fit black poplin or oxford shirts (preferably not button down collar, but acceptable) ? I have a bunch from our legacy and one from gitman vintage (very long lasting!) but wanted to check if I missed anything decently priced?

(x-post from visvim thread) Any ideas on how to clean the canvas portion of the 73 boots?

Or am I just being overly-precious about what should be a (literal) canvas for wabi sabi patina?

I always say let things get dirty, but a sponge or toothbrush and a little water and detergent should get stains out of canvas

I would just leave it, but really, spot cleaning with a mild soap is pretty much the only way to do this, I wouldn't bother, personally, but ymmv.

Markaware has a relaxed poplin shirt this season that I'd be curious to try...

Not too cheap on their webstore, though, and I don't know that they have any stockists in EU or elsewhere...

Help!

I got a gift to a restaurant that requires men to wear a sport coat. I do not own any such item.

ALSO: I am working with a non profit that has an annual auction where everyone is dressed fancy. Not necessarily black tie, but either suit or sport coat. I own none of the above.

I do own a lot of Margiela, Schneider, and denim. I don’t own any CM clothing.

Totally confused about how to approach this. The restaurant dinner is a one time thing, but the auction will be once a year.

No idea about putting together CM outfits, whether it makes sense to buy a sport coat vs a suit. No weddings or other events that typically prompt a suit purchase.

I tried a Margiela lapel-less sport coat, but the only color was navy virgin wool and the only trousers I own are Schneider wool in black.

Help!

I would just buy a suit where i could wear the jacket as a sport coat, but those aren't always easy to find depending on how much you're willing to spend. The kind of suit where you could do that will prob run you about $2,000-3,000.

If you can't spend that much, then there are plenty of places to get a good sport coat. Try Suitsupply and Spier & Mackay for things under $1,000. Then No Man Walks Alone and The Armoury if you have a little more to spend.

If you've never tried CM stuff before, it can be useful to buy things in person at a store with good sales associates. I find sometimes guys don't know how a jacket should fit, so they buy the wrong item, but a good SA should lead you in the right direction.

I hate the word "essential," but a suit or navy sport coat is a pretty useful item anyway, and prob worth buying even if you don't wear them that often.

Just get a well fitting midnight blue suit andut a few good shirts. For evening, a white shirt, tonal tie with texture, white linen pocket square, black plain toe balmorals. Done. I like Ralph Lauren. Make sure you have a good alterationist.

Wait, you don’t wear suits for fun and you might have to wear one for a few hours once a year? At least go try on an H&M or Stafford or something before you decide that spending a thousand bucks minimum is your only option. Are the charity people snobby and actually discerning? And would any of that actually matter to you?

Highly disagree. It's nice to own a good suit, whether you are going to wear it a lot or not (and I never do), It's like a lot of luxury goods. No one will know if you skimped out but you, and that's enough.

Luckily you can get some great stuff for +/- $1,000. Maybe lower, check out Spier & MacKay. There really is no good way to measure quality after a certain degree. Maybe just avoid a suit that is too dated (e.g. skinny lapels, low rise, slim pants, cropped jacket).
