Been really getting back into polos lately. Besides TF and Margiela I’ve found Casatlantic and OB are making really nice ones these days. Even Lacoste had a knit polo made in France that I liked. It’s such a flattering piece of clothing I don’t know why I paused on it for so long

I know you're kidding but I believe there is a kind of really out there fashion that is less easy to link to a specfic era and has more lasting power, Yohji and CdG are two mainstream "Japanese"* examples.

Well, I was kidding the way I said it, but not about the substance. The trousers I have most of these days are CdG, The Viridi Anne and Rosen (not Japanese but very much influenced by that great trio of Japanese designers, if one also includes Issey Miyake)... they are all quite weird by normal western standards, tending to have dropped crotches to some extent, quite aggressive tapering or balloon silhouettes, as well as odd detailing etc.

Huh. Cool. I have never heard of that brand, and really like it. This, especially:

It's just Oscar himself in Barcelona - I visited his shop in Jan 2020 when I was there for the day on a layover. Really nice guy, showed me a bunch of fabrics he had in storage, and I ended up ordering a custom pair of navy sateen fatigues he was wearing. Some other random things of his I've liked/saved:

He also models his own stuff pretty convincingly:

On dad pants talk - Can anybody recommend me some high-waisted straight leg pants?

Sunflower? Recently ordered a pair myself, still in the mail though.

Too wide.
Thanks for all the recs though everybody, none of these seem to be what I am after.
I'll just have to hope Husbands restock or LEJ adjust the fit.

Old Town "Plains" https://www.old-town.co.uk/products/plains

Note that one of the guys modeling them on the page is older with presumably wider waist and hence baggier fit.

Slightly tapered, high waist, normal fit, loads of fabrics.

I wanted to try them until I read this:

“Please be aware that new customers wishing to place an order will need to visit the shop and try a sample to ensure the correct fit.”

Is there a way to circumvent that?

I did a dumb thing and got these faded orslow jeans hemmed, but didn’t consider now the hem looks weird without the fading and stuff. Anything I can do to fix them? Not that big of a deal?

It kind of looks like they did a regular hem rather than a chain stitch, which could be part of why it looks weird. You could bring it to a denim specialist that has a chain stitching machine and have them redo it. As far as the fades go, it I'm sure those will reappear pretty quickly.

Thanks!

Anyone have any recommendations for denim specialists around NYC or places I could maybe mail them to?

I wouldn't trip even on the chainstitch, unless you care about that detail. The APC x L'Etiquette collab pair have a lock stitch. However, it appears that chain stitch yields better roping, which is the vintage effect you are probably concerned with.

Even if you got a chain stitch, the roping effect is probably not going to appear that easily with the current color.

thank you! Will look into all of these.

yeah that was my worry. They look like weird trousers right now or like I cuffed my pants inside.

at least I didn’t do it to $600 worth of jeans

(I did).
