I may be wrong, but it seems to me that much of the discussion over the last several pages of this thread is due to Matt (Foo's) inability or unwillingness to recognise that his experience with Rubinacci is simply his experience alone. It is not universal, and other clients of Rubinacci may well have had different experiences that are equally valid to Matt (Foo's) experience.

Simply because Matt (Foo) does not require Rubinacci to play the role of stylist does not mean that Signor Rubinacci is not a stylist - it simply means that (as far as Foo is aware, at least) he is not a stylist for Foo.

I don't think that's it at all.

I think - as mentioned by others - he just doesn't like the word 'stylist' for Mariano.

This stylist wording discussion has been the worst thing ever. I'd rather see some of Eric Glennie's new collar designs than have to read one more back and forth on the meaning of the word for each of the individuals involved.

I guess 'stylist' alone just doesn't sound upscale enough. It doesn't seem to cut the cake in Foo's interpretation..

Like I said, "stylist" to me connotes something like an image consultant. A person who directs what clothes you should wear. I'm sure Mariano does that if you ask him to, but what you describe, which is similar to my own experience, and has much more to do with technical and structural intra-garment detailing, doesn't really add up to that.

Rachel Zoe, for example, is a stylist (although, she has since become a designer, but you get the idea).

Incorrect. An "image consultant" requires a degree in charlatanism from some school or another. Just ask the resident, or is he no longer with us?

I still remember the day we found out that a guy on our desk did some modelling (of the non-Excel variety) on the side - everyone set their desktop background to a different one of his headshots.

We referred to him as Mr. Dubai for a solid two weeks, even with clients.
I hope you gave him a good towel snapping for good measure.
