I've lived here sixty-five years and my father before me. I think I know what I'm talking about. Right now it's overcast, sprinkling and 51F. Perfect tweed weather. Some people watch too much television!

Thanks for the advice OlSarge - it's appreciated!

you can only wear tweed in certain neighborhoods of LA, in other neighborhoods the other gangs will kill you.

My thoughts exactly!

Tweed is fine depending upon the weather, I'm lucky enough to be in Manhattan Beach where it can be fairly chilly compared to inland.

Again, I'll second OlSarge here. I was out with my dog a little while ago wearing my Harris tweed jacket and a medium-weight flannel shirt, and I was still chilly!

I might mention that my family (on my mother's side) has been in the LA area since the 1870s. My great-great grandfather, Andy Francisco, founded the Los Angeles Daily Times in 1881. It later became the LA Times under General Otis. Francisco was later an LA County Supervisor. Francisco Street, just west of downtown LA, is named after him.

As to the matter of tweed getting you killed by gangs, I have heard of young men being bumped off (sometimes mistakenly) for wearing red in a Crips neighborhood or blue in a Bloods hood. So, it might be inadvisable to wear that blue Donegal tweed in a Bloods-controlled neighborhood. (Not much red tweed around, at least for men.) Fortunately, that sort of feudism among minority youth seems to have decreased considerably in recent years although there was a sad case the other day where a teenager with no known gang affiliations was shot for wearing the "wrong" color. In my own case, as an almost-septuagenarian "cracker," it is unlikely that the gang kids would mistake me for part of the opposition.

You have to be in the "neighborhood" to get shot (most of the time). There have been no recorded tweed murders in 4 or 5 years. The only tweed fight that was on record was slap fight and a broken finger nail in the RL parking over a top coat that was on sale.

Ok calm down. It was 20 degrees here, aka tweed weather approaching fur weather.

LOL! 20F is definitely tweed approaching fur. As JLibourel said, 12 oz tweed is very comfortable here. Where you are I'd expect 17! That's fairly serious cold, sir.

you're in luck as LA/OC is barely breaking 60 as the high temperature this week
so tweed is perfectly fine
and who says tweed is too formal?

Lol, 60 degrees and you wear tweed, what a bunch of pussies.

I sleep with the window open when it's above 40...

How about people wear tweed because they feel like wearing tweed, not as some dumbass statement of temperature endurance?

How about you actually read the majority of the bickering on this thread before you try to participate?
