Can I wear TWEED in LOS ANGELES?

    Hello Everyone -

As a Canuck living in the middle of the frozen Canadian prairies I could use some advice for dressing appropriately in California during the winter. This week I'm headed to LA for business (OK, it's really Anaheim...) and I have to plan and pack my wardrobe. This is not my 1st time in Anaheim at this time of the year, however I'd like your advice. While there I'll wear a sport coat or blazer & tie in the mornings, will do the sport coat open collar look in the afternoons and - with the exception of one reception where I'll have to put the tie back on - will do jeans and blazer in the evenings.

So what is acceptable this time of year as far as a jacket? Is a nice blue/grey herringbone Harris Tweed out of the picture for one of the mornings? Is this considered too heavy for the climate? I want to take a few different coats so that I don't come across as that dude with only one sport jacket.

    Thoughts?

I just returned from church where I wore a hound's tooth check tweed shooting coat over my turtleneck. I was complimented by our exceptionally dapper organist and felt very comfortable during the morning. Current it continues to threaten drizzle so I will wear it again this afternoon on my way to the fly fishing shop. Yes, at this time of year a tweed jacket, so long as it isn't one so heavy as to be labeled 'thornproof' or 'keeper's coat' is perfectly suitable. And welcome to the South Bay. You will be within 10-15 minutes driving from the HQ of MyTailor.dom.

So long as you stay with jeans you'll be fine, LA is not as casual as people make it out to be, I'd feel more comfortable dressed up there than in Seattle. You could get hot in the jacket though fyi, so be prepared to look appropriate if you have to take it off. This is one of my guides for jeans and jackets:

I used to. It can get cold at night right on the water, or in the eastern inland towns.

This is the sort of look I usually go with, however I'm going to need to put on some "proper" pants for the daytime.

Assuming a tweed is acceptable, can I also assume that some light flannel pants would work too?

Ehhhh, trousers, matching or not to the jacket, might be on the edge of being too formal for LA outside the upscale neighborhoods.

Anaheim and LA are two very different places.

I would be sweating in tweed in LA. If you have something more breathable like wool or cotton would be better. It was like in the mid 70s here today.

No tweed, please. Everyone is being nice and skirting around the question. It's way too formal for So. Cal. And WTF?!?! is up with the picture above. Tie and Jeans *shudder* is correct. If you want, just dark jeans, sports coat, and sports shirt. Ditch the tie and pocket square.

Wow, I've never seen light jeans pulled off so well. I'm usually against any sort of light colored denim.

You missed tweed weather :) While it was nice and cool about a month ago, it feels like winter has ended already. It has been 70+ for 2 weeks now and barely hit 60 today due to rain. Once the storm moves on I would expect it hit back to the 70s again.

I would suggest you just pack a wool jacket/blazer and a scarf, it would be easier.

Google Los Angeles (or Anaheim) weather. You'll see it gets plenty cold enough for tweed jackets or wool overcoats, esp. at night. There's a reason restaurants have space heaters on their patios.

And just what would you know about it? I freakin' live here and I wear tweed whenever it's cool enough to make it comfortable. All you East Coast swells shut the f*** up about what it's like in SoCal when you've never been here.
