True, but then the same goes for the short jackets both in sleeves and body, as far as trademarks I mean.

The modernist appeal of TB's clothing in itself is a kind of gimmick. Even as a fan of Thom Browne, I've found his obsessive design aesthetic to be quintessentially post-modern, and not at all what he professes it to be.

I don't think so. If it is the ideal that is thought to be important and powerful (modernism in Browne's case, the death and resurrection of Christ in the Christian case), the packaging shouldn't obscure the self-evidence of the ideal.

I would add that I'm not a TB-hater despite what may transpire here. I wouldn't wear most of his stuff (although I can't say I never will if I find something that fits and is not overpriced) but I think that it looks good on a number of people who wouldn't even wear tailored clothing in the first place. His attention to quality is something I can approve as well. The philosophy BS is slightly annoying though.

'Packaging', like ornamentation, can easily detract from the functionality, efficiency, or 'message' of a product. I think all modernists see functionality and efficiency as primary objectives. For many, the message is also important because they want good ideas to spread, not be obscured by Corinthian columns and strips of grosgrain facing.
