add me to the list. i ordered pants last september and am still waiting. i'm most disappointed in the lack of communication.

salvatore needs a responsive business manager.

as an aside, i'm looking forward to medtech's nsm/ambrosi comparison.

Shh. Don't let my secret out. FWIW, I don't buy the apologetics NYR is trying to sell, and that has nothing to do with foo. I only make like 5 MC posts a year, so I can't possibly defend him all the time. The idea that this is just part of the game is silly. Providing good service means providing honest service. Slow is fine, obfuscating is not. Artisan or banker or teacher, all the same. Anyhoo, Salvatore owes me no pants, though I am not at all happy with how he is doing business right now. I did talk to him last week, but apparently without a lot of success. Now, I don't imagine anybody here has spent more time with Salvatore than I have, and I am fond of him, but he needs to get his ass in gear, and his act together, and were I out pants, or were I a new client or whatever, I would be spitting mad, so I am sure as hell not going to defend him.

Thank you for the wonderfully useless truism.

Because thats basically what he's telling you now by being backlogged 6 months, and you've got your panties in a bunch over it (rightly so I might add). Or better yet, if you were a new client, and wanted a pair of pants, and he said "Sorry, not now, I'm busy," you'd ever return to him for work. Again I call bullshit.
You know, confining yourself to Brooklyn's best does have its disadvantages, one of them being a very distinct commercial provincialism. Just because you cannot imagine your own tailor being backlogged to the point where he cannot complete orders by the regular time does not mean it doesn't happen. Point in fact, my last two orders from Rubinacci were uncharacteristically slow to finish. However, Mariano told me upfront it would be a longer wait than usual due to ramped up business. Also, perhaps more importantly, they didn't take any money from me. And yes, to speak in your parlance, I was "cool with it."
Finally, I may not have tried all of the "best" and most expensive guys, but I also think your claim that "no one" puts as much handwork into a pair of pants is also a bit erroneous.
I've shown mine. You show yours and prove me wrong.

Alas, we are not.

Let the artist be the artist, God knows the Italians make beautiful things when inspired.

Either that or take a cue from Manton and go there yourself.

There will be growing pains and if you really like the pants, then just order what you want and realize that it will take a while before you get them. In terms of communications, it sounds like he could do a better job but it also sounds like they are incredibly busy. he's going through some growing pains, if you like the guy and you like the product and he's never done wrong by you, give him a bit of a break.

Flack!

Very tolerant, very anthropological. Reminds me of when I lived in Ecuador.
It occurred to me at the time, and has been confirmed more recently, that
"Flipiino Time", "Ecuadorean Time" etc. are excellent variables to predict the
level of emigration to the US. I've never been south of Rome but I've watched
enough Italian movies to understand that Southern Italy is relatively speaking,
in the European context, underdeveloped, with a mentality closer to Latin America
than Milan.

Anywhere there's heat/sun involved, you can expect some form of added time.
