Wrinkles on upper chest of sportcoat

I have a sportcoat I like very much, but it has some vertical wrinkles on the upper part of the chest (between my shoulders and my pecs) that I have not been able to get out. I've tried steaming and ironing with an undershirt between iron and jacket.

If it matters, the jacket is a Chester Barrie in a midnight blue worsted with no Super number listed. Obviously there was no glue used in its construction.

I'm a lousy photographer, my GF is in New York, and my ancient 2MP Nikon digicam is on its last legs, so excuse the clumsy efforts.

I take it the wrinkles weren't there previously? Did they appear after you had it cleaned?

Double no. I don't think I've ever even had this jacket cleaned. I just brush and steam.

Is it possible the steam stretched the wool out of shape, and the jacket needs a good pressing?

Can't really see much from the pictures but what you describe is the typical fit issue associated with a jacket too wide at the shoulder. Vertical wrinkles form between the shoulder and the pecs, and they may stay there until you have the jacket pressed. So my guess is either that the jacket is too wide for your shoulders, or that it is too wide for the hanger you use for that jacket

Any answer I give, and those proposed by others, should be tempered by knowing that we do not have very good pictures to go by. Which should include a full body shot wearing the jacket - several from different angles. However, forced to judge on sparce information, I would agree with the other evaluatiojs that the jacke tis simply too large for you. Perhaps a tailor can take it in enough. Dealing with a large front piece is a bit difficult however. My guess is that the coat is at least 1" too large across the shoulders also. Padding is holding it up at the edges.

But if fit were the problem, why would the wrinkles suddenly appear? They should have been there all along. Unless I'm misreading SGladwell's response above...
