Bulleit is a great bourbon. Between Knob, Woodford, and Bulleit, I always try to keep at least one bottle around. Bulleit is probably my favorite of the 3, but I drink Knob more than the other 2.

I'm going to a wine tasting tonight. It's the "Reserve" tasting night, with a small crowd, and the wineries will all have their best wines. The stemware is Riedel

Damn playa, you're gonna be blasted after an hour.

If you taste anything that stands out in Chateau Ste. Michelle, let me know. I love their lower end stuff so much, but have never been sure if it'd be worth buying some of their more expensive options.

I'm going to be choosy about what wines I actually taste. And you keep your sips small and don't hesitate to dump it out or spit.

At the general tasting, tomorrow night, there will be about 800 folks and the tickets are about 1/5 the price. I'm sure what I call "The Peasant Syndrome" will be in ample evidence.

Well, I'm these comments are certainly before you heading out for your tasting, but here are some fairly random thoughts on a slice of the names listed in your program

Two of which I would make a stop for sure: Rosenblum, St. Supery

Worth sampling if vintage/interesting: Stag's Leap, Frog's Leap

Testing something easily available at good prices: Le Crema (Chardonnay)

Stuff others like, but I don't: Ferrari-Carano (Chard), Parducci

Ubiquitous, don't spend your time tonight: Joel Gott, Kendall-Jackson, Kenwood, etc.

Worth sampling IIRC: Hartford Family Winery

IIRC I visited the Mendocino Wine Store back in the spring. I don't remember them having their own label, but IIRC they had Parducci and a few others that weren't very good.

Cheers!

I'm having a Bourbon Highball right now. What a wonderful drink when the weather turns a little nippley.

We decided early on that no notes, no purchases, and just "experience" it. The stand outs for me last night were a 1997 brunello, a supertuscan (and my cellar/wine knowledge of I wines is low), a 2000 Burgundy, and oddly, a Washington state zin.

Not to say there wasn't a ton of other great stuff. You know how your tongue gets at a big tasting, and there was a ton of great food, from wagyu beef to seared ahi to caviar on salmon mousse to crab bisque. One noted local chef was there, doing figs stuffed with cheese (fontina I think) and pine nuts, wrapped in prosciutto, and baked. Another well known local guy had lobster ravioli in a very rich sauce.

Other tasty wine included several Cali pinots and cabs. Oh, note to BV lovers. The 2005 is radically different in taste from prior vintages. Far oakier and not a good thing IMO. If you liked the Georges de Latour BV, stock up on past vintages. A really nice Oregeon pinot I can't remember the name of. Was ranked #3 in the Robb Report if that helps.

Krug and Moet was flowing everywhere. One guy was pouring 30 year tawny, can't remember which house, but one of the major Port houses. Someone else was pouring DuMol pinot (yum). One table was a cocktail based around Contreau.

The weather was perfect, the lodge is set in beautiful surroundings, and my wife greatly enjoyed this part of her b-day weekend.

Hi! Oh well, right now I'm having a healthy sparkling mineral water, completely non-toxic and non-alcoholic, the seventh of my eight glasses a day, so it's all good. I have to admit shamefully, though, that I'm going out later tonight and I will probably have a gin and tonic or a vodka and juice. Or two. It's so hard to resist and besides, if you train hard and eat right, you can allow yourself one-offs.

I'm stuck at work on a Saturday night. I could use some bourbon right about now.
