Last night I gave-in and had a couple ounces of Rittenhouse 23 rye despite being on amoxicillin. No bad side effects (its not like I was even tipsy, anyway). This coming saturday night I'm going to celebrate with my friend who will take the GRE that day. I'm sure he will do well and to celebrate the occasion I am going to bring him a bottle of Warre's Otima 10 yr tawney port to drink (thanks for the rec's Augusto and Pio). Also, tomorrow I will post a pic of a couple new purchases.

My most recent purchase (all of two days ago) was something I'd been wanting for a while. I already owned a bottle of the ordinary Cragganmore 12-year-old, so there was only one logical next step: the 1992 Distillers Edition. I got the second-to-last bottle on the shelf, leaving its brother behind in a light film of dust for another discriminating soul to find and enjoy. Apologies for the grainy picture, but throwing up a photo from some Internet whisky shop wouldn't prove that it's mine.

I'll let you know once I've opened it. On second thought, I should have posted that in the recent purchases thread, but oh well. If I don't drink it later tonight, I will pour some this weekend. Piobaire: Yeah, I got tired of feeling envious, so I had to buy a bottle for myself.

Seriously, Cragganmore rocks. I'm already eyeballing that Murray McDavid 21-year-old . . . But first things first.

Captain Morgan Private Stock with Cherry Coke.

The typical combo but It's sooo delicious. It's like cream soda.

Bought Hennessy VS that I drink over the rocks, no mixer and of course, the Absolut vodka that goes with anything I can throw at it. It's so versatile.

Tonight: Bulleit Bourbon, 3 ice cubes, and a few slices of fresh ginger. It doesn't take much to make me a happy man.

How does the Bulleit compare to other entry-level small-batch bourbons, say Woodford and Knob Creek? One friend of mine who loves Woodford claims to find Bulleit a bit lacking. The next bourbon purchase I make will probably be a bottle of Eagle Rare 10-year-old single barrel. $23.99 for that grade of spirit is a steal.

It's more mellow and slightly sweeter than either Woodford Reserve or Knob Creek; and it's very smooth. Out of the three, I prefer the Bulleit. But, that's just my taste. For comparison purposes, my other go-to bourbon drink is Maker's.

Bulleit is really fantastic. Probably my second favorite bourbon (behind Knob, although Woodford may actually be tied with KC...)

I don't mean to offend you, but Hennessy VS on the rocks sounds absolutely disgusting.
