I like your thinking... I do that
There is just something incomprehensible about the concept of 'too many tweed jackets'. I mean, talk about "does not compute!"
absolutely. I have 5 now, and am only just getting started
Where can I get an unlined, uncanvassed MTM hacking jacket?
Tried bookster, nogo, tried harris, nightmare. I'm about done trying.
Peter Lee in Hong Kong might be able to do it. You'd probably have to send him your best fitting jacket and mention any minor adjustments.
Rough guess on price? and moot point, because I don't have a jacket that fits well. Not trying to be funny, BTW
For uncanvassed I'm not really sure, but likely around $500. His business partner comes to New York or perhaps Peter can send you a measurement chart showing how/where he would need measurements. Worth reaching out to him at peterlee @ leebaron.hk (spaced out to negate spam).
Depending on the cloth, I think MyTailor.com can do the same. Find out from their website when they will next be in your area and make sure that you have Joe Hemrajani measure you. They have a wide variety of tweeds to choose from and I'm sure you could get what you want from them. They key is having the chief tailor take your measurements. Joe is a perfectionist and it makes a difference.
Thanks guys, I'll def look into that. Harris finally got back to me... 2250 pounds sterling STARTING price, and I have to go to scotland. Thats what I earn in half a year.
Phew! And once you got a jacket like that, a fine Arabian would be an essential accessory.
um... I have a dusk harris swatch from bookster in front of me as I write this...it's actually pretty horrid, looks quite different to the pics on their website. I find on my screen that I have to look at the bottom right of each pic to get the best approximation of the true colour.
Well of course. That's why you order swatches. Now if you had the money to travel there and could look at the bolts instead of the swatches it would be better yet but the swatches are a much better way to choose than the web. Personally, I'm out for their Donegal blue. I have no idea when I will be able to afford it but I definitely want that coat . . . once I've made sure of my choice with a swatch, obviously.
My first commission from a new English Mystery Bespoke Tailor (EMBT). I was looking for a more "classically" English, structured, clean cut, which differs from my Mahon garments or those from my Singapore tailor. Fabric is from the Alsport bunch (no. 2400) and weighs in at ~18oz. Apologies for the poor fit pics; they were snapped at my final fitting within an iPhone, but enough I suppose to give you a sense of the overall shape, proportion and fit. Note that IRL the vertical lines of the checks fall true. Something about my stance or the camera angle makes it look like the vertical lines for the checks are running at a slight diagonal, but I think this is an optical illusion.

David - Nice work on the new garment!
