I have all three (well sorta, my “986”s are the unlined BB version & the antique edge + waterlock sole variation.) I’m content to swim with the tide when it comes to these .

For the responses in thus far, all agree that 405 (Indy boot) and 975 (Long Wing Blucher) belong among the top 3 iconic Alden model numbers.
The votes for number 3 are mixed, including model 986 (shell Color 8 Leisure Handsewn slip-on) 907 (black calf balmoral cap toe dress shoe), 990 (shell Color 8 Plain Toe Blucher).

I would love to see a pic of these. I don't believe I have ever seen an unlined BB loafer on antique.

Sorry for the tease by way of confusing prose, but that’s two pairs of loafers: the standard Brooks Bros. unlined color 8 shell with the standard dark edge, and the makeup in color 8 shell with the antique edge and waterlock soles. Several retailers carry it, but mine were from J Crew.
