Sorry for the tease by way of confusing prose, but that’s two pairs of loafers: the standard Brooks Bros. unlined color 8 shell with the standard dark edge, and the makeup in color 8 shell with the antique edge and waterlock soles. Several retailers carry it, but mine were from J Crew.
Awwww maaann! Ha, all good and thanks for the clarification.

For the responses in thus far, all agree that 405 (Indy boot) and 975 (Long Wing Blucher) belong among the top 3 iconic Alden model numbers.
The votes for number 3 are mixed, including model 986 (shell Color 8 Leisure Handsewn slip-on) 907 (black calf balmoral cap toe dress shoe), 990 (shell Color 8 Plain Toe Blucher).
I think the 660, original tassel moc loafer, has to be in the mix doesn't it? If we are talking iconic

I'm kicking around ideas for my second annual Alden birthday present to myself, and am curious to hear what the crowd has to say about the B+M Plaza last tassel loafers vs. the standard Aberdeen last ones?

Both are good, Aberdeen looks a little "sleeker", but either would be a great present to yourself. Of course, the standard shoe thread answer is...........Get Both!

Always comes down to taste, style of dress, current collection, etc. With those caveats I'll say that even though I'm not normally a huge fan of plaza for shoes, that B&M shoe has been calling my name since Yenni made it. It is very cool and the raised stitches give it a 'wow' factor that I like. But I am also drawn to it because I own the more traditional tassel loafer. If I had to pick one, because my dress leans more to business than casual, I'd go traditional. If I leaned more towards casual, I'd go with Yenni's.

Plaza simply because my feet aren't comfortable in Aberdeen...that's where I'd start. The shoe that fits better.

It's just my opinion, and it's worth all you are paying for it, but Aberdeen/Van make a better looking tassel loafer. While Plaza makes a better boot (even though I did have a boot made on Aberdeen )

I have both and both are beautiful tassels. The Aberdeen is truly a classic and hard to beat. The Plaza (with the hand stitching) is a really special twist. They are both sleek lasts, I would offer that I would do it based upon if you want a slightly more chiseled look (plaza) or if you want the more classic look and based upon fit. Fit is king in the end...

I'd get the Plaza ones. The Plaza ones are a makeup for a specific store. The Aberdeen ones are a stock model. If you decide you don't like the Plaza ones for some reason, you can probably sell those off and buy the Aberdeen ones at a future date. The inverse might not be true.
