There is one papal dispensation for use of the term "Frisco". The Hell's Angels local chapter (clubhouse is down in Dogpatch) is in fact known as the "Frisco" chapter. You go tell them it's not correct..... Other than that it does seem to confer "tourist" status on the user.

I still remember the controversy in 1984 when Jesse Jackson referred to San Franscisco as "Heinytown."

I think that it seriously damaged his chances for the Presidency.

I feel this way about the use of "Vegas" for my home town, or "Ne-vah-da" for the state (even though it's closer to the Spanish). Sorry I wasn't able to make it. Evening meetings are killing me. But I hope it went well.
