I've read that in combination with black pepper, the effectiveness increases like 1000% or something. I make turmeric/pepper rice.

i have the plaster GATs, they're a little bit stiffer than normal ones but still plenty comfortable.

yea, they're pretty stiff maybe the first couple of wears but they get comfortable after that. i wear mine almost everyday now. looks great a bit dirty too. so no need to be too precious with it.
