1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

haha clever (10). the first was spot on and the second is just bringing up an author that has nothing to do with carver. closer to carver would be like denis johnson.

murakami is good. i liked norwegian wood, and then read some of his other books but they are all very similar. japanese authors that i like better (similar style):

    kenzaburo oe
    yasnuri kawabata
    yukio mishima

    all 3 are better, imo.

Mishima is great, esp with a glass of poison in your hand.

I actually acted as Yukio M during a "writer's club"-thing in school, was a lot of fun. I was seated next to Hitler though.

Goddamn am I happy about this. They look so sick for actual use. Been waiting for like a month to Kop. The trainer is supposed to be a little more substantial than the racer but I believe they are close to the Ashe msrp. 150.

Doesn't seem half bad if it's good fiberglass. I've never liked how the new ones are only molded plastic (even though they're #authentic).

The plastic ones are horrible. Modernica makes these with fiberglass, using the old molds from Herman Miller. It's essentially an exact replica. The one local shop that sells vintage shell chairs uses Modernica bases because they are the highest quality repros.

I've been searching for a single arm chair shell rocker for a while, and can only ever find pairs. The pricing is usually:
Herman Miller original: $500-550 minimum for one in decent condition
    horrible plastic repro: ~$250
Modernica exact repro: $315 on GILT, normally $450. I'm a bit shocked to find them on GILT, given their popularity.

^Delivery is mid-late September, so it will just barely be the start of tweed/pipe season.

The modernica rocker is really nice, I went to the showroom a few months ago and ever since it has been on my radar to purchase. Great pickup zissou and shore.
