In the film "Men of the Cloth" Joseph Centofanti fits a customer for a Bal coat in Russel Plaid. I remember the jacket specifically thinking it would be a bit too bold, but it looked great in the film. I tried (quickly) to find a clip, but I couldn't.

David there are some clips of the film that you mentioned. I have to say that I like Lovat’s Russel plaid far more away.

but has anyone made one from magees tweed and speak to their quality?

edit: i didn't like vbc, drapers, marling and molloys overcoat offerings and did not manage to take a look at harrisons.

This sport coat is from a Magee tweed. It’s pretty soft and drapey. I don’t know about the ones you posted, though. They’re likely heavier and could be different yarns and weaves. If they’re like my sport coat, I think they’d create a billowy, flowing coat, which could be quite nice. But they wouldn’t be a firm, straight silhouette, if that’s what you’re aiming for.

It's a traditional Tuscan overcoat called a Casentino. My Naples tailor apprenticed a few years in Tuscany and learned how to make it there. I'll use it to walk around on cold days when I'm wearing a sweater (jumper).

Thanks. It has tons of texture so it should retain heat pretty well even though it's not a particularly heavy fabric. It's 625g if I remember correctly. I guess that Tuscany never gets too cold.
