Which colour of the filson briefcase would you prefer? Which one is the most versatile? Which one gets the nicest patina? Otter green, navy or tan?
The navy fabric is a touch thinner than the other two colors, so for me, that rules out navy. The tan will get some patina quicker, purely because it's lighter, but it can also be viewed as "dirty." I think the otter green is the perfect in-between, so while it takes a bit longer to develop some patina, the patina is rarely viewed as dirty in the same way it can be with tan.

No real right answer...so it just comes down to personal preference.

Anybody out there have comments or ideas or mods to Filson flyfishing gear. Have a few pieces and a few questions.

The new Filson store in Seattle had an opening party last night. This was the walk to the restroom:

Personally I'd say you have more options with the Tan. You can wax the hell out of it for a burly/rustic look and let that set and leave it's mark...or you can keep it clean and focus just on getting the leather patina'd. My bag is 7 years old of regular use and is hardly dirty, all without particularly trying.

Just picked up this Short Cruiser from the Filson store in London. Absolutely love it. Like a better denim jacket.

Congrats on the new Short Cruiser and may it bring you decades of faithful use. Just ended up purchasing 2 Mackinaw Cruisers, One in grey and black plaid and one in black.

The black Mackinaw was an xmas present and is way too big in a 44. I actually have had the Seattle Cruiser (Camo/Otter Green) for some time and it is almost identical. Do love the moleskin lined hand warmers and the Yukon Wool is nominally softer.

That brings me to the Grey/Black plaid Mackinaw Cruiser that I just ordered yesterday. Simply put, I really dig the color combo and it is now discontinued. It was one of the original colors when Filson changed from Model 110 nomenclature switching to 10043 if memory serves.
Anywho, the color being discontinued justified in my twisted head a winning argument to do so when already having the Seattle Cruiser,

Here it is:

Great coat. You never need to justify buying a new Filson. Great colour way.

Gracias mi amigo. While it makes no sense, it somehow feels more comfortable than my Seattle Cruiser which features the supposedly softer "Yukon Wool". Oddly, the grey/black is also noticeably softer than my other Mackinaw Cruiser I have in black.

It might be due to only the plaid Mackinaws using wool sourced from the USA whilst the solid colors incorporate "imported materials Made in the USA". Either way, I have barely taken off the grey/black Cruiser since receiving it.

With such a surfeit of Cruisers, if anyone has a hankering for a Mackinaw Cruiser in black, I am seriously considering listing it. It has never been worn and still has the tags obvs. Way too big for me being a 44 in the Alaska Fit. Twas a birthday present that I did not have the heart to ask the receipt for.

Anywho, should anyone be interested, please feel free to PM.

I'm loving my new Short Cruiser... I do wish it was a few degrees cooler out though.

Hi,

Reposting this question here. Just picked up one of the Filson Lined Short Cruiser jackets and noticed it came in the Soy Wax cloth material that's since been discontinued. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this cloth? Specifically how durable it is, how it ages, is it worthwhile, etc?

I'm curious if I should see if Filson will exchange it for me for one in their tin cloth, but they don't make it with the red flannel lining anymore so I wanted some advice before pulling the trigger

I have no experience with Filson's soy wax material, but I wouldn't consider their tin cloth to necessarily be the gold standard. Though I love it still, my Tin Cruiser has been patched & rewaxed so many times it's approaching Theseus Paradox territory. I've only had it four years, so I find these claims of decades of use to be baffling. Perhaps it's the imported cotton fabric that's to blame?

Damn, that thing looks like it aged in great. From what I've read the soy wax cloth was meant to be thinner and lighter (re: less break-in time) but was discontinued based on the email I got from Filson (below). That's why I was wondering if anyone had any firsthand experience with it. I probably won't be beating on the jacket but if it's much lighter than that tin I may need to consider replacing it.
