Lovely - and interesting alongside the skinhead pics.  In a years time (if this is 1970) the skinhead girls will be trying to look like this....

read the caption:

Youth In England In The Seventies. Londres - mai 1970 - Portrait d'une femme de profil, portant une blouse transparente GIANNY GIANNY sous un manteau rose, sur le trottoir d'une rue où s'apprêtent à passer un taxi et un bus à impériale. (Photo by Jack Garofalo/Paris Match via Getty Images)

so if you really think that skinhead girls will be trying to look like this, do you also think that skinheads will look like this?? another pic from the same photographer... ;)

Seeing as they all have 1-5-1970 in the caption, I much doubt she took all the pics in one day (!).
So it was probably the day of an exhibition, or public release of a bunch of pictures taken over the last few months.
Location would give some good clues as well. Don't suppose anyone recognises the back drop? (more out of my own curiosity than needing proof - the proof's in the pictures).

As for the check shirt - I've never had that one but it looks vaguely familiar. There's no 'cuff' to the sleeve, just a plain finish with what looks like a button, so that rules out Brutus, Jon Wood, Slim Fit, Slim Jim, Peter Gunn, Winfield, Fashion World, Pegasus, Inn Shop, Rave, double Six, Joseph Penryth Gould, Man Alive, Duke etc etc ... and its not Ben Sherman, Jaytex or Arnold Palmer ... just cos it isn't.
Will have a look at home and see if I have one similar.

I rather thought it might have been a Jaytex. Whatever it was there were two different colourways available : the red and a blue. I think it may have come from a shop like Harry Fenton.

Thanks for the glasses link GsVs. Those aren't too crazy priced. I may just look around on amazon or something for a real cheap pair to start to see if they suit me. I usually get my cheapie aviators online for $8 a 3/pack :p

I also lean towards them being genuine 69/70. Professional photographer, decent equipment & best film available for magazine work (transparency) then kept properly in Paris Match archive would all explain quality of images. Add to that the cars in background of that last wider image (Austin Westminster & Ford Anglia) - both rare by 79/80. Admittedly could have been staged, but two old cars is getting quite elaborate. Don't know enough about London buses to know if the one in background of same shot is a particular vintage.

The rest of this photographer's shots on the Getty website, with numbering and dating, also seems persuasive.

It might be conclusive if they were published in Paris Match in 69/70. Anyone have a stack of back numbers or access to archive?

Agree with MoM, though, that it is sensible to err on side of caution for the book and if that means some great images look to be possibly too good to be true then they should be treated as such until provenance established and agreed. (And it is quite fun to try to do that - I think I may need to get out more.)

Just looking at that Getty site. Here's one dated April 1970 - smoker in centre with crop and fly-fronted mac (gives good idea of length then).

This one captioned 18th June 1970, a couple of Holland Park School pupils ... no mention of Harrington, Sta-Prest or DMs.

The Paris Match archives do not display all the photos published in a magazine specialized in photos (Paris match wanted in its beginnings to be the French "Life"). There are just too many of them. And nothing says that those peculiar photos were published.
Jack Garofalo, the photographer, born in 1924, began to work for Paris Match in the fifties (1953), until apparently the end of the eighties. His known as well for his pictures of war, gangs, and celebrities. He used to say that he didn't knew much about technique, but that he knew how to use the light...

Looking at the Photos,I would put them about `70 in South East London. The Cars are right and the Bus is a rear platform one-so if it was later someone went to a lot of expensive trouble. The one wearing the Crombie seems to wearing it without the Tie Tack in the front pocket(if it was later, everybody and his wife would have one)and properly ruffled as well. With the Flight Jackets I would have said they were the 2nd Batch that came in,because in `69 I had one with a dark lining-and it was navy blue.Wish I still had the Photo I had done in a photobooth about that time, wearing it.

No Buttons I did not mean you.Me and Missus saw a group at the "Almost Grown" Do in Southend(they were also at Nottingham but quieter)and she passed comment on it.The dead give away was the "Beer Bellies".

Elwood, like the first of the two Photos. The Look and the Stance. Its there.:)
