For some of the questions above, I wear sz 8.5 Rugged Classics with jeans from roughly 7.5" hem (NS) to 8.7" hem (SC's), and they don't look awkward, at all. Also, the hickory, which is what I have, will have a deeper, richer, more saturated, but somewhat more uniform shade if treated with Red Wing Boot Oil. Highly recommended. I prefer them laced with Indy-type laces. Looks awesome. (I know Indy-envy, but I'm looking to get those before the year ends.

Saw 2 things in the store yesterday that are going to be hitting the web & catalog soon that were pretty nice. A 3 button corduroy "hunting jacket" with 3 button flap pockets on the front and belted at the back. Also a light heathered gray shawl collar cardigan in a wool blend that was pretty nice, but a little itchy. The sa that i asked about them called j. crew and said they're in the catalog coming out this weekend.
The jacket fits a bit smaller than i'd hoped though. I'm a small in just about everything of theirs and it was just a bit tight in the chest to wear anything substantial underneath.

Looks like the jacket is already up:

This thing looks great as I tried it on in store last night. I believe it's wool, acrylic, and alpaca blend. I would have bought it, but the ******* low armholes killed it for me. Another almost purchase from J.Crew, it they only got with the higher armhole program, I'd be all in.

May seem like an odd question, but do you wear the secret wash shirts with jeans?

Sure. I've worn them to work in the past as well and nobody says anything. They're not formal by any means but not strictly casual either.
