Bad Fitting Trouser from J. Press - Attempt Return or Tailor?

Hi folks, I'm a newcomer to the forum and to menswear.

I've been reworking my wardrobe, and I heard good things about J. Press. I went to their Downtown DC location and picked out some wool trousers. The sales associate said they were the right size other then the hem, so I left them for tailoring and picked them up yesterday.

After trying them on at home, I'm really unhappy with the fit. The hem is a full 2 inches off the correct length (too long), and the whole seat area seems off. I'm wondering if anyone knows what wrong with them, if I should try returning/exchanging them or just go to a tailor. Any advice would be appreciated.

Not a tailor, but the hips look too tight. The thighs are probably pulling, since there's wrinkling at the hamstrings. Either way they do not fit.
Thanks for confirming, I’ll see if I can swap them out. It looks like there’s a little extra material on the back seam so maybe I can let them out if they won’t accept them.

you won't be able to fix the issue just by letting the back seam out.
