Turns out i was putting in about 1/3 as much charcoal as needed.

Doing pork shoulder because worst case scenario i just pop it in the oven to finish cooking.

If the fire starters' instructions say 3 to 4 per pound of charcoal and i have 3ish pounds of charcoal i should probably have more than two total starters.

Sounds like some bad ball bearings. Replace with steel ball bearings. If that doesn't work, you might need to add some lubrication to the flex manifold.

One the one hand: it's some sincere-sounding advice.
On the other hand: it comes from BGF.

Maybe check the bottom grate and make sure small pieces of charcoal are not blocking your air flow. I always put big lump pieces on the grate then add the smaller pieces. My KJ also has venting up the sides and I make sure those do not get blocked either.

My fuel was way off, nothing was lit. It's going steady now.

I will see you next in four hours, my little friend.
