I blame @SpooPoker for about half of my expenditures. He posted so many pictures of himself wearing perfectly fitting suits, shirts, and shoes that the rest of us became convinced that we had to achieve the same level of sartorial perfection.

I genuinely appreciate that sir.

A dozen pairs of G&G? That must have cost a small fortune. Did you actually order them at full price from the website? And I thought I was insane. hahaha. Since joining SF, I've bought 16 new pairs of shoes, from G&G, to EG, JL, to various Norwegian welted brands, but never at full price. All of them were NIB, but were bought at a 50-70% discount, otherwise, I'd be even more impoverished. The problem is, that buying beautiful clothes becomes addictive. I've devised a 5 year plan for buying new shoes, that includes Paolo Scafora, Stefano Bemer, Antonio Meccariello, Yohei Fukuda, and of course more G&Gs. I would have never of heard of any of these astronomically priced brands had I not joined Styleforum.

Prof, may I ask how did you get EG & GGs at 50-70% off? Been surfing around for quite some time and have never found one! Maybe except NIBs in this forum which are rarely found in my size..

Mostly from the bay, but also from scanning outlets like yoox, grailed and other discount sites, and pouncing on the right shoes when they're available. I saw a pair of NIB EGs in my size on ebay for $250. It was incredible. They were dark oak brown derbies and someone bought them and re-posted them for $1,000. I bought a pair of NWB G&Gs TG73 St James II cherry red, for $360. I couldn't believe they weren't sold immediately, so I snappped them up. You just have to be at the right place at the right time.

Its my pleasure Spoo. Thanks for so much sartorial inspiration. You and Harvey Specter were two of my biggest examples of how a well-dressed man should attire himself. Before SF, I used to think that Canali suits and Moreschi shoes were excellent, and I aspired to owning a Brioni. But after graduating from SF university, my closet is full of Attolini, Kiton, Isaia, Orazio Luciano, Zegna Milano, Tom Ford, and still quite a few Canalis. You and Harvey convinced me to take the Tom Ford plunge, although I had to get rid of most of the shoulder padding and narrow the shoulders somewhat for TFs to fit properly.

That's another effect of Styleforum...I became bold in experimenting with highly experienced tailors. Due in large part to Spoo's recommendations, most of my shirts are now Finamore, Kiton, Attolini, and Barba, with a few Tom Fords for good measure. I had to conduct radical surgery on the collars of all but my TF shirts to achieve the right level of collar integrity. I prefer larger collar leaves, but even the highest quality shirt collars will droop after an hour of wear. Only TF collars will retain their shape. To achieve the desired level of collar stiffness, I bought collar interlining material from a factory in England, and had two of my tailors insert the new lining in my shirt collars. Now my shirt collars retain their shape all day. All of this took years of experimentation to get right, but it was worth it. Thanks Spoo. Where would you like me to send the bill? hahaha

@SpooPoker has a few EGs on his website, Luxeswap, selling at 40-50% discounts. If they're still available in a few months, I may avail myself. You just have to keep searching until you find the right deal. I've found some great deals on Styleforum's market as well. Also, when it comes to sites like the bay, Grailed, Poshmark, and Styleforum, don't be afraid to negotiate with the sellers. I can often get an extra 10-20% off the listed price just by being persistent.

Thanks much Prof! Would keep an eye on those sites.

Not saying that getting a good deal is not important but as I’ve progressed I’ve learnt that there is no point buying shoes that you wouldn’t otherwise buy just because it’s on discount. I would caution people to do the same.

Yeah, sometimes I think so too. But buying something at a steep discount gives you more leeway to just resell it if turns out you don't really like it, I guess?

This is good advice later in the journey, but at the start it's hard to ascertain fit/style so getting a good deal on a pair can really help dial things in

I agree completely. I would rather buy a pair of awesome G&Gs at full price, than to buy something lower quality that is not impressive at a steep discount. Although I've never bought a pair of MTO G&G at full price, I may do so. I have my eye on a pair of G&G Holdens in Savoy patina, perhaps in TG73 or DG70, but it will cost me a bundle.

I don't own any boots, but these may be my first: Cantebury boots in MH71. Definitely not available at a discount.
