It looked to me like the book would err on the side of conservative rather than crazy.

Yes it is in color, and as I stated earlier it looked to be a good piece for someone who is just starting to care about the way they look.

Is it better to buy this book, or buy the Esquire Black Book 2008, if I only wanted to buy one?

Take a risk, blow the $25 and buy both.

That being said, and having the Black Book - I wouldn't buy either. The 2008 Black Book wasn't worth the purchase price and Esquire's sartorial opinion is so questionable (i.e., subject to the input of advertisers and the whims and fancies of fashion and trends) that it's probably not worth paying for. Don't forget - Esquire is such a prostitute for advertising dollars that they extolled the "classic" nature of square toes shoes.

I am assuming there are better books. As a heterosexual over 25, I think Esquire's editorial/style opinion is a joke - other demographics may have differing opinions.

I'd get the book rather than the black book. This years BB was a disappointment. Too many ads, not enough of the useful stuff.

agreed, I didnt care for this years. Just go to a bookstore, and read it there. It mostly reads like a giant ad (well more so than normal), but It does have some interesting tips. I have last years, and I was disappointed.
