They've actually been making this since the line launched. It's always tough to find the Slim Guys in any kind of indigo selvedge (until this season).

The Black Selvedge slim guys are great. I personally wear them a lot because the EP's Smith doesn't quite fit me. The fit on the two jeans is really different. Guys who wear the Smith often find the Slim Guy to have too much room in the legs and vice-versa. It's really about which cut will work better for you.

Mike is terrific to work with.

Thanks so much for posting the photos - they fit you great! I'm really glad that you dig them.

Can anyone tell me what the back rise measures on EP Smith jeans, specifically on the the 33 & 34?

^ Mine are coming along, but it's still going to be a while before there's anything worth taking photos of. There are some very fine grey whiskers showing right now and a grey line forming around the wallet.

I'm happy to say that our 2nd Hoyt sample arrived today! Fit feels good on this. We've got some small tweaks to pocket size and position, but we're about 99% there. We should be on-schedule for a delivery around the end of March. I'm going to wear these around for the weekend and wash them a few times to ensure that the sizing is right, but I feel like we're good to go.

Here's some quick snaps. We'll make these, and a new batch of Smith Indigo's, out of a 12oz Cone Mill indigo denim with contrast stitching.

I know it's just a sample, but would you mind posting up some measurements, just so we can get an idea of how the fit compares to the Smith?

Hopefully a bit earlier than that. Early April would be my latest estimate. I thought that we'd have to do more sampling rounds, but they basically have it nailed.

Nice thing about this fit is that the very top is pretty consistent with the Smith. So guys with thinner legs can still wear it if they want a somewhat looser jean.

We haven't dialed it in exactly, but as a rough estimate:

- Same waist (although corrected, so you no longer have to size down 1)
- 0.5" larger in the thigh
- 0.25" to 0.5" larger in the leg opening (still working on the best possible taper equation)
- longer rear rise to give more room in the seat

You know when the Smith is too tight when their thighs prevent the crotch seam from getting into the right position. So this jean is designed to give that extra room on top while maintaining the waist and a tailored leg.

The new sample looks great. The contrast stitching goes a long way. And are those shorter back pockets?

Thank you sir. And yes, we moved the pockets up a bit and made them a bit shorter. These are a little too short, so the final result will be halfway between the current EP's pockets and the photo here.

I'm new to raw denim and as much as I liked the APC NS I purchased recently I'm looking for something with more of an "adult" fit. Sounds like those modifications including the changes to the pockets will help in that respect. I'm looking forward to spring and to purchasing a pair of your new Hoyt jeans.
