This thread is the best I've read in ages. Excellent photos, with lots of different styles and vibes. Awesome.

DBs are great, whether for blazers or suits. What I especially like is that depending on the cut they can move from looking like a cruise liner to looking like a schooner. What I mean is that they can either achieve a stately, weighty presence or a sleek, slim effect.

My figure means my own DBs tend to the liner end of the spectrum but my favourite ever DB was a slim, pearl grey, wide herringbone silk blend that I saw in a movie that actually made the wearer look sporty and slightly louche rather than weighty.

A few of my own:

Nice, HF. The light grey with the rusty shirt looks very Casino-ish.

Very nice guys. I'm particulalry fond of the brown db on that asian guy a page or so ago.

Anyone have photos of a shorter and wider guy wearing one (and not looking like a gangster)? I'm 5'7" and 220lbs, wearing a 46-48S. I've always wanted to try a DB but fear it will look ridiculous. I've heard opinions either way.

Thoughts? Pictures?

thanks,
b

Get a flared skirt and a good deal of waist supression and you should be okay. Avoid bold stripes.

william- nice one. Is this an odd jacket or part of suit? I've been thinking about getting in touch with Thomas Mahon about a DB and would be interested in seeing more...

I like the general shape, but I think I'd prefer the gorge a tad higher.

Edward Sexton currently makes the nicest DB to my eye. The lapels are wide to be sure, but he gets the placement of the peaks in the right spot. I would post the photo but he has one of those damned Flash websites. There are examples of his work including him wearing them there.
