Bought topied shoes...what lies beneath?

I'm with the OP here, the idea of topies reminds me of wearing rubbers as a kid and makes me want to puke. Hey don't wear nice leather soles out hiking on a muddy spring day, but also don't so f***ing cheap that you won't pay to resole good shoes once in a while.

Topy = safety = end of story.

Well, material would have been removed in the sanding, so the sole will be thinner and sit lower...

They sand it not just to rough it up, but, depending on the cobbler, the thickness of the topy and the thickness of the sole, to get the same balance that you had before. Which may mean a topy's worth. which, as I said, could be quite a bit.

Good luck to your topy adventure.

Knowing your tremendous adversion to Topy, next time think harder before pulling the trigger on the purchase.

(My) Topy's are barely a mm thick. I have a sample in front of me now.

My cobbler sands the bottom of my shoes for about 2-5 seconds (likeyou said, just to roughen the surface), then applies the topy on. What I appreciate in particular about my cobbler is that he takes the time to bevel the edge of the topy, so that the chances of it catching/lifting are further reduced.

I suggest you reread my post. Carefully this time. Here: I'll help.

Take it slow...

Mine are 2mm, btw, which is a lot of wear on a leather sole.

BTW, Bris they didn't come with a box (just shoe bags) and I thought about your obsession with boxes. Have you ever bought a box from the manufacturer?

Dude, I am not a fan of shoes with buckles but those are handsome. Just wear them until the topy is no more & peel the rest off.

As for the box, I usually just get them for free as most manufacturers have empty boxes about. For shoes made overseas with no local shop, try a local retailer.

Palpable irony.

Regardless of your intentions, what you said was a mix of the palpably false and the nonuniversalizeable.
