Do you already have brown monks?

J

Not yet, J011yroger.

However, living in London, black is still a very much desirable shoe colour. And as I already have a growing selection of shoes in shades of brown, I was considering black.

I take it you have monk strap shoes?

I don't yet, I'd like a pair but can't really convince myself that I would wear them with a suit as I consider them a more casual shoe than convention dictates so I feel I would get more use out of brown ones.

Plus I already have like a dozen pair of black shoes.

It just seems logical to get brown first in more casual shoes and black first in more formal shoes.

Try the dry cleaner maybe? It'll probably be like 5 bucks for them to try with the tie. And you can try your madness if it doesn't work haha.

For a wool tie, a dry cleaner's is exactly the right answer.

Saw two fitzgerald suits at the brooksbrothers in downtown nyc that fit me. something like 1200 for both. Navy and Grey.

I'm wondering if there are other suits I should look at in that price range/style before I pull the trigger. Thanks.

Is it okay to wear burgundy oxford captoes for casual wear (chinos, dress shirt and a blazer) or that is big a no-no ?

Just got back my fifth avenues from the cobbler to replace the heels. By default, the fifth ave. has a black heel but my cobbler painted my heel area dark brown, the same color as my uppers.

Does this make the shoe less formal?

Feryll, those should look great with chinos, provided they're pressed and creased.

JezeC, I don't think it matters as long as the welt is noticeably lighter than the upper. Next time you polish them, use black edge dressing, I guess.

I believe these are on the 026 last, which is a very nice shape. And they will take a good shine too, making them more suitable for trousers. But you will not be breaking any rules wearing them casually. I recommend pairing them with mid-greys and charcoals. Edit: There was a question of my own I wanted to ask. I ordered some charcoal herringbone woollen trousers, which have just arrived. However, they are of a slightly slimmer fabric, and I am not sure how well they will work as odd trousers. In other words, they may look too close to something that belongs in a suit? Also, I should point out that they usually look much darker than in the image below.

They do look like suit trousers if taken on their own, but with a lightweight significantly contrasting jacket, or a cashmere/merino sweater, I doubt anyone would take issue.

I mean, solid trousers and lightly patterned trousers do exist, it isn't like you are wearing navy pinstripe trousers.

Forgive me for thinking ahead to warmer weather, but what pants would one wear with a lighter blue chambray shirt, and an off white linen blazer?

The color that I'm not supposed to wear in the winter but do so anyway.

Nantucket reds! I think tan chino's could work well too. I'd potentially try them with off white pants as well, but then you'd have to wear a different blazer like khaki or navy.
