I don't know if the Rubinacci prices in London are different to Naples, but I paid 3300GBP for a Solbiati Linen Blazer, and was quoted a starting price of 3100GBP for a jacket prior to my first appointment. I was quoted 3900GBP for a 2-piece suit prior to my appointment also. Assuming therefore that Rubinacci trousers are around 800GBP, that makes them slightly more expensive than Ambrosi.

I would probably charge just as much. I would do the work locally though which may be seen as being advantageous to some in terms of accessibility and fittings.

Is all that hand work really necessary on a pair of pants? I was under the impression people were looking for a better fitting pant. I don't think it would be necessary to copy every exact pick stitch.

Also, I am under the impression that the Armoury adds their own mark up on Ambrosi's goods to make a profit. Would you really charge that much given there was a significant demand?

I think if you take out all that handwork you are looking at a different proposition altogether.

From what I can tell, this isn't some great cultural divide. Looks like, after a while, Ambrosi just got more business than he could handle.

So earlier customers (like myself and aportnoy) were perfectly happy. And people who ordered later or kept ordering were perfectly unhappy.

I think there's more benefit than that. In my experience hand stitching has more "give," or stretch at the seams then machine stitching. Of course this might just be me trying to justify the premium I'm paying but hey, all reality is subjective, right?
