It's rigid but plasticky is definitely not the right word. Plasticky is corrected leather that feels smooth and coated. Veg tan leather is stiff but it will scuff and mark at every scratch of the nail (then "repair" with a little moisture) - it's raw and a different leather type than other leathers. Doesn't feel plasticky at all in person.

I've been interested in La Portegna since before NMWA opened shop. The colors of the leathers they use are beautiful and stand out from the crowd as do their designs. Having said that, I must admit I too got a slight "plasticy" vibe from various pictures I had seen. Made me start to wonder if they were using corrected grain, instead of full. So I emailed them directly a while back and confirmed that the leather being used is full grain. I didn't get the impression they were using any marketing trickery in their wording that you will sometimes see with companies saying an item is "made with full grain" then using it for only a few parts of the bag. :)

Of course not all full grain leathers are created equal, but it's not uncommon for leathers to start out a little stiff.

Fair enough. Your raw denim analogy is the best way to describe it. Rigid and stiff when new. Like the first time you try raw denim, it is hard to imagine the material evolving in the manner it eventually will.

I've handled Jose's own Mendocino portfolio that was just a couple years old and it was noticeably softer. It was hard to believe it actually started as rigid as the brand new one that was right next to it. It was also a good 3 shades darker than the new one.

I predict that Spanish leather goods will go up in price to match their Italian counterparts as the consumer becomes more aware of them.

Maybe amongst those who more commonly buy things a bit more upscale, as well as read about the business side of things, but for the rest I highly doubt it. Not until more than simply leather goods come from, and are made in Spain, but garments with materials from all across the board for reputable, high rep brands. Some fancy video of old men making stuff by hand helps too.

Spanish fashion and leather goods have impressed me more than other european's but I also find it difficult to source them. When I do they are usually massively discounted just because nobody knows them.

My understanding is that the same dynamic had applied to Spanish wine at least in recent years. It says a lot about the premium name recognition brings. On the other hand I feel as if I've heard of this place Spain before... Somewhere...

Last day for Op Giacca commitments. Tomorrow morning, we will send links for pre-order deposits and get this Op in execution mode.

With eight separate orders for the three blue jacket options, can we hear from the ones who picked those options on whether there's one (or both) other options they could switch to if needed? If we get to 7, I'll take the risk of ordering an extra one for the store - just to make it happen

OPERATION GIACCA

Drapers wool/silk/linen check
Fox navy herringbone flannel

H&S blue herringbone tweed

I'm debating between Fox Flannel and Drapers wool/silk/linen. I've ruled out all the others for various reasons.
