Call you *****. Listen to OTC...Dad's don't always know best. You're probably at the entry-level and he probably has little experience hiring someone there.

I'm in a similar predicament, although I just assumed I didn't get it and stopped thinking about it. I'm going to give them a call on monday just to get it out of the way. Will post my inevitably hilarious results.

This becomes more clear beyond the entry level but it is true.

The only reason they hire for full time is because they need someone. They may do short internships or week long externship things to maintain recruiting relationships with a university but if they are recruiting for a position, it means they need work done.

I wouldn't go so far as to say that you are doing them a favor by looking at the position (since obviously you need work as well) but you need to remember that it is a 2-way relationship.

offers were probably made by the end of the week. you didn't get an offer. don't waste your time thinking about it. i've called once before i knew better in a similar situation to yours, they will be kinda embarassed and flustered and say

"oh i was just about to call you"

and then they will reject you.

Actually I would probably just email them at this point, putting someone on the spot to demand a rejection seems really awkward.

I was admitted to a top program 2 months after classes had started. They just said "oops", I told them they were incompetent.

He didnt get the job. They probably 'forgot' to let him know.

Ill echo the sentiments of some previous posts; well run companies should inform final round candidates of their decisions. I have been in the OPs position before and usually got a letter. It isnt a good move for companies to let these final round candidates hang dry when just the week before they were strongly considered for the position. Just leaves a bad taste in your mouth.

There is always a good possibility that the two paths cross again in the future... why eff yourself if you are the company?

Have you done your follow up letter? That should have gone out the same day as the interview, to everyone who interviewed you. If not, do it now!

About a week after the follow up letter, it is OK to call your contact (probably HR) to touch base and inquire if there is any other information you can provide or questions you can answer. You must resist the temptation to become a pest about this! You can call once a week to follow up and that is all!

Once it becomes clear you will not receive an offer, call your contact, thank them for the opportunity, and ask if there is anything they could suggest to improve your presentation. Follow this up with a letter that thanks them for the opportunity and their suggestions for improvement.

By systematic review and improvement of your shortcomings, you make each unsuccessful selection process a step toward the final one that is successful. You must always do everything you can to set yourself apart from the pack and show that you are not just another lout.

It is OK to maintain the relationship with these contacts. You can send them a nice letter from time to time telling how you have improved yourself by winning the Grand Prix of Germany, proving the unified fields theory on your Trash-80, etc.
