Hello,

I'm keen to start a conversation about menswear in Paris, France.

Living there, I notice that while the scene seems dominated by the giant 'luxury' brands, there's a sort of middle-of-the-road ground of labels that provide 'updated classics' and a 'timeless wardrobe', but ultimately seem average in terms of quality, and generally skinny in terms of fit.

I feel that streetwear has grown into its own with a fairly good choice of independent stores stocking a good selection of trainers and t-shirts etc.

But where does that leave those of us who also swoon over quality fabrics, obsess about fits, and love classic British style including its contemporary updates? Yes, we have Crockett and Jones, and there are very hushed whispers of Drake's opening in Paris, but am I alone in finding a gaping hole instead of shops to throw excess income at?

If anyone has thoughts, feelings and addresses, I'm all ears.

Anatomica
Jinji
Upper Shoes
Mettez
Crimson
Beige Habilleur
J.M. Weston
Paraboot
Good list… if you have the cash, but most are select-shops.

Would add Berteil (if they still exist), Charvet, and Carvil (shoes), all very Parisian brands.
My favorites (for CM) were Old England and Arnys, but they both disappeared.

Try these guys. Stores at several locations in Paris. I shopped there over 20 years ago.
Excellent quality for the price. At the time they promoted a British type style. Alternatively,
try the Eurostar.

If you are interested in a CM thrift store with a lot of heart, check out Simon's, 12 Boulevard Arago in the 13th arr.

Are there any distinctly French pieces that one might want to pick up in Paris, the way a Barbour jacket is quintessentially British?

I got the impression that there are a number of items that can be made with a French aesthetic but few are distinctly French. You have the beret arguably, but that has become tourist costume in Paris. I'll set aside breton stripe shirts for this discussion.

Don’t forget the French baguette and the huhuhu laugh?
