New Chan stuff (pics)

Here are pics of new(ish) Chan stuff. On the left is a suit I got in the spring; on the right is a jacket I got earlier this month.

I have been pretty happy with the gray suit. When I got the brown jacket, I felt like it looked short, even though it is the same length as the suit jacket on the left. Then I remembered that we had the button placed 0.5" lower on the brown jacket, which may be throwing off the balance. Or maybe they're both still too short (even though they are 1/4" longer than my initial orders).

Oddly, it appears as though the button is in the same place in both of these, even though it's clearly 0.5" different on the jackets. The brown jacket seems to sit higher overall for some reason, even though the length is the same. The only difference in cut is the button stance.

I have another jacket on order from Chan. Should I have them:

(a) revert back to the style on the left (0.5" higher button stance),
(b) keep with the style on the right,
(c) lengthen the jacket a bit, and/or
(d) ask them to suspend work on my next jacket and reevaluate when Patrick returns in March?

Yeah, I don't know why that one does that. I thought the others have been OK in the divot department. But before this gets out of hand, I should note that I am not now, nor have I been in the past, a sanitation worker. As far as you know.

I recommend they build up your shoulder a little bit. They are too sloped.

your length looks very similar to where Patrick put mine. At my fitting, I told him I was a little concerned about it being too short but he talked me into keeping it. I later emailed Ferdinand asking them to add 1/2" to the length.

You don't look good in unpadded shoulders.

More open quarters might look better.

Somehow the jackets just don't flatter you. It accentuates your long neck and your wide hip

The brown jacket is definitely shorter. Look where it hits your thumb--the suit jacket comes to the base of your thumbnail, while the brown coat barely touches your knuckle. It's at least 1/2"-3/4" shorter.

Thanks for the comments, especially those regarding the shoulder issue, which I wouldn't have considered. I'm fairly stocky in the chest/shoulders (among other places), so my inclination has been to avoid shoulder padding, but I suppose it could help the balance with my hips. Also, mao & PG, I did just try shrugging my shoulders a bit and it brought the quarters into better balance (more open).

The length issue is kind of a mystery. Orgetorix is right that the brown jacket hangs ~0.5" shorter than the gray, but the length measures exactly the same. In any event, I've been asking for longer only to be talked down by Patrick, so I will be more firm on that in the next round.

I think the length is fine, although I would prefer open quarters. I really can't tell the difference in button stance despite having looked at if for a few moments - just don't have the skills of the Foo. I like the fit of the SC better. Perhaps the fabric drapes better because it is heavier?

The brown is John G. Hardy Riviera 7514, shown below. The gray is Minnis fresco. Both are 8-9 oz.
